If Dalton starts and wins the next 2 games…What do you do with Winston? (1 Viewer)

So, you can judge Dalton by the Bears and Cowboys. But not Winston by Tampa Bay?
Of course you can judge Winston on his time in Tampa. When did I say you couldnt?

Im simply noting that Dalton is a 34 year old journeyman QB who has been steadily trending down over the years.

He's not the Bengals QB Andy Dalton. Who is a fantastic backup QB who IMO can step in and win us some games. Winston is still a better QB when he's healthy.

Winston is:
-injured
-struggling
-losing both games and probably the locker room

So by your own definition do we make Dalton the starter now?
Well he is injured. 3 games really isn't enough. But that's the coaches call

I think the the real question is did you ever support Winston? If you think Dalton can become anything remotely close to being the answer at QB.
I saw MAYBE 2-3 Jameis jerseys in the dome last season.

Even those that claim to be the biggest Jameis supporters, don’t support him enough to invest $150.

Just finished up watching every play that I could find with Dalton at QB over the last 2 years. He definitely showed flashes at times where he made some really nice throws in tight windows, and he still has a lot of arm power- more than I anticipated to be honest.

He had his share of issues too, for sure. (Especially last year with the Bears but I’ll give him a tiny bit of slack on that because it was the Bears)

But the one thing that stood out to me was that he is surprisingly mobile. Extended way more plays with his legs than I figured he would at his age. Overall I would say he looked serviceable, even fairly competent at times. If he can just be competent then I think we have a shot.

And that is my uneducated analysis of a player at a position that I know next to nothing about! I’m about 50/50 on him 😅

If Dalton actually moves the ball and say we win the next 2 games. What do you do with Winston when he is healthy to play again ? Would you ride it out with the Cajun Carrot or put Winston back in ?
If that happens you put Winston on IR and reevaluate in 4 weeks.

Once he gets healthy Winston is going to be the starter.

The mission this year like it or not is to see if he's worth signing long term and win games while doing it.

It doesn’t matter what either of them do. They are both transitionary guys. Next year we need to find a way to get a franchise changer at the position and maybe keep one of them as a back up.

The most efficient way to acquire a franchise QB is in the draft (you get him on a 5 year rookie deal), but we’ve already spent that capital. I just don’t know how they will pull it off. Maybe trade some aging talent? It’s close to retooling time with a big chunk of this roster.
