I've had this album for about a year now, but it hasn't been formally released in the US. But get ready - it's being released soon. You can buy it on Amazon (as an import), or you can preview it on many of the public torrent sites available.

Try to imagine an album that is winning praise from guys like Jimmy Page, Paul Rodgers, surviving members of the late, great Thin Lizzy, etc.

It's got that old-but-instantly-familiar appeal like Wolfmother, but it hasn't yet been cheapened by over-exposure on pop/rock radio. It sounds like Free/AC-DC/Zeppelin, but with better production. It would have fit in well with the late 80's/early 90's blues metal revival (Badlands, Tora Tora, etc.)

I will be quite surprised if this band doesn't absolutely blow up in the states, in short order.

They rock. They are amazing. Class.
They are from wee County Down, same as me. Near Newcastle I think. That is where all my family are from.

If they come remotely near you, their live show will affect you. In a very good way.
Thin Lizzy/Led Zep crossover. They sound fresher than any new band around. They've been in Belfast a few times.

Download the song Keep Believing and probably be speechless at how good it is.

I loved the Wolfmother CD, in spite of its popularity. Some really great songs on that one.

We should get together and listen to old rock/metal and drink beer one day, bro!

Wolfmother - GREAT album. They are a power trio from Australia, and they play great '70s sounding hard rock songs. The retro sound may be contrived, but they make up for it with great songwriting and playing. The vocalist/guitarist uses a harmonica mic on some vocal tracks for distortion, and I'm kinda partial to that due to being a Gov't Mule fan from way back. Hard to say who they sound like, but just think of all the great hard rock from the '70s and you won't be far off. The bass is up front in the mix and the playing is fantastic, which is one of the main reasons I like them.

Listen to the previews on Amazon. My favorite song is 'Witchcraft'. Great music to ride around and drink beer to**.

Yeah, I think they played that. The high-pitch vocals threw me off for a while, but after a few listens it grows.

No problem Broadmoor, it's a valid comparison. Surprising you aren't too familiar with Wolfmother. This song was all over rock radio for about a year:

Unfortunately, the typical corporate rock radio crap happened with this band: the song blew up, so they played it over...and over...and over...and over...and....well, you know the drill. It's really a great song, and a damn good album overall.

If you're looking for something that breaks new ground, keep moving. It's largely derivative, but at this point, I really don't care. I listen to stuff like this for the familiarity and "comfort of an old pair shoes" it brings. (I was one of the only people I knew who was way, way into the Black Crowes in the 90's.)
