Why isn't anybody supporting the Hornets? They're considered one of the best teams in the NBA. Foxsports.com has them ranked #1 in power rankings and ESPN says they're the hottest team right now. What's the deal? I'll be attending a game or two when i visit for Mardi Gras. I hope this turns around. Think about what an NBA playoff run and a championship series might do for New Orleans as a city. Appreciate what we have.

Some people just don't like basketball, especially the NBA. The Hornets are a very good team, and Paul is a lot of fun to watch. I never got the vibe that New Orleans was much of a basketball town when I lived there.

I know I'm only speaking for myself, but I have little interest in the NBA until playoff time, when most teams finally decide to play defense. College is a much better product throughout the regular season. Plus, there are a lot of things to do in N.O., it is going to take some time for people to make it a priority to watch a basketball game, let alone 41 of them.

N.O. can't afford to "take some time" to catch Hornets games. They are a professional team and will not stick around when only a handful of fans come out to support them. Seriously, I'd kill to be able to go to an NBA game every night, let alone go see the best team in the entire western confrence. Hell, even if they were terrible CP3 is still worth the price of admission.

It is perfect timing too, just as the most disapointing season in Saints history ends the Hornets are giving the city a winning franchise. Come on New Orleans, put on your big boy pants and support your basketball team!

I usually spend just as much when I go to an NBA game as I spend going to a Saint game. There are 10 home games in the NFL...41 in the NBA.

I would guess that some don't have the funds to go to that many home games. I mean, I understand there's affordable tickets and all...but they get you on concessions and memorabilia more than anything. Take a Family of four to an NBA game and even if you pay 10 bucks for the crappy seats, you'll spend a hundred or more on concessions....that's alot of scratch.

Its a shame -- personally I think we would have been wise to let them move to OK City with the conidtion they play 10 home games in New Orleans -- New Orleans cannot support a sport that has 41 home games. What is worse is that if we lose them we look like a city that cannot support pro sports. I mean - its one thing to have 12,000 people in the seats for a losing team -- but one that is playing like the Hornets -- a crying shame --

It is a shame.

They are giving the tickets away left and right too.

Those games wold draw maybe 6k people. If that. No one wants to support a team that isnt "theirs".

The issue is season ticket holders. Right now we're at 6500. Before Katrina, they were around 10k. If we get 3500 extra season ticket holders, all of a sudden our 12k per game average goes up to 15.5k, which isnt that bad at all.

People always point to the last year before the storm to say "Look, New Orleans didnt go to the games BEFORE the hurricane", but they often forget that was the year we were trying not to have the worst record in NBA history. The years before that the arena was packed.

I think we'll be fine next year. Because the average attendance's main numbers come from season ticket holders. And people were wary of buying season tickets this year. But if the Hornets make a serious push into the playoffs, we will see a lot more season tickets sold for next season.

I would love to go once I get another job. I enjoy going, but the gas to get there and the price of a snack in the arena kills me :)
I wish they would show more games on tv.. I tuned in when they put a beating on the Heat, but that was the last game televised?

They were giving away tickets for the game tomorrow, but it seems they gave them all away? Ticketmaster says the event is invalid now

There are alot of reasons for the problem, which have been discussed often, the tv contract, the radio contract, the departure to OK, the size of the city, etc. None of those things have helped.

Still, I think the bottom line is that New Orleans, and Louisiana for that matter, is not much of a basketball city or state. The area has to be taught to like basketball, which can't happen fast enough, especially with the other problems mentioned. Some places would overcome all those problems for the love of the game. That is not the case here.

On top of the frequency of the games and having to support the team on weeknights, I wonder if going to that area of downtown, at night, also poses a problem. Post Katrina, I have found the area around the Superdome rather run down. Even going to court in the daytime, walking along the abandoned New Orleans Center, it smells of urine and is a bit creepy. Despite some promototions I have seen, I still don't know basic facts like - can you park in the Superdome for the games, all parts of the dome, for anyone, and how much?

I suspect most the fans are driving in from outside the city. I know, for me, it would involve leaving work early and a hectic drive across the lake and back. I don't know anyone who goes to the games and my wife has no interest at all. Until 1 recent network game, I haven't been able to watch any games on tv to peak my interest in the last 2 years.

It all comes down to exposure. Not many people even know about the Hornets. Once the TV thing gets fixed so that more people can see them(ex. Northshore) & those without cable.

If the Saints weren't on regular TV they won't have the following either.

It's BS to think an area isn't a basketball area. I don't believe any of that. Everyone loves a winner, especially one they can SEE!!! When the Hornets played the Lakers & Heat(ESPN) people flocked to see Kobe & Wade... They know, some are too dumb to realize that they have a winner right in their own city.

I hope Byron Scott get's to coach the All-Star game, that should wake up about 10,000 people and get them to the games. A playoff run would also draw the people in.

I think everyone see's ESPN, reads the paper or listens to the radio that screams "Hey the Hornets are the best team in the Western Conference, Come See Them!!!!" I don't understand it, Hornets games are about the most entertaining thing you can do on a weekday. About as cheap as a movie, a family of four can get four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks for $77 it cost that much to go to the movies now days, as Deeke said tonight on the radio. Wake Up people the Hornets are among the NBA's best get out there and watch them before the playoffs.

15,000 a night should not be that hard with 200,000+ residents in NO alone, not counting the surrounding areas. This team is exciting to watch, and they're extremely young. And, Chris Paul is the best young point guard in the NBA. This team is going to leave unless the city wakes up, which is a shame. Let's face it; the Aints aren't ever going anywhere, at least not with the scrubs they have on defense.

...It's BS to think an area isn't a basketball area....

My point is that it is not, inherently, a basketball town. If it were, a team with its record would not have an attendance problem. I have never been left the impression people around here are really, really, into basketball, like some places are. It can be trained to enjoy basketball more, but that requires the media's help. Presently, we have a recipe for disaster.

For me personally I cant stand college basketball, and enjoy the NBA. College basketball makes me bored, 9 guys on the court that have no business out there.

i think people try to not like the Hornets because they decided they dont want to. People are like that.
