LOL some of you are hilarious. You act all butt hurt like SP was your spouse and needed break and you'll cut your nose off to spite your face and not take them back. You'd rather have a pick or two and take a CRAP SHOOT in the HC market. A couple of draft picks are not worth a HOF HC. Take a look at what SP did last yr with maybe the most decimated injury-wise team in the last 20yrs. He produced a WINNING season and just missed the playoffs. Plus your forgetting the FA market impact. Players (especially QB's and offensive players ) WANT to play for Payton. There are more than half of the teams in the league that would drop their current HC and hire SP
All of that is true and I still want the picks!!! I rather have a coach that wants to be here and he clearly doesn't.

I chose the high pick. I feel like that era is over and the Saints are in the early stage of their next evolution. Drew is gone, Payton is gone, the SB contender window is probably gone (for now). so let's embrace the next evolution, and take whatever assets we can get to help us with that.

it's not uncommon for great coaches to move on. it may seem like just yesterday Payton became the head coach, but he coached the Saints longer than Lombardi did the Packers, longer than Bill Walsh did the 49ers, longer than Madden did the Raiders, longer than Bill Cowher did the Steelers, and longer than Andy Reid, Tony Dungy, Bill Parcells, and Dick Vermeil did ANY of their teams.

At some point, if this franchise wants become legit and not known for one run, the Saints will have to learn to function in a post Payton world.

The only ones that beat him in terms of seasons with one team are BB, Harbaugh, Tomlin, Landry and a few coaches way back in the 60s and 70s.

It will not happen, but I would absolutely want to have Coach Payton back. Unfortunately I believe that ship has sailed so we can only hope Mickey Loomis can extract a One and perhaps 2nd or 3rd for him.

yeah, and Shula also.

actually, he has Harbaugh beat by one season right now (2006-2021 vs 2008-2022).

Picks and time to move on.

Payton was great with the offense but flawed overall as a head coach/GM hybrid. You'll stay competitive if he finds a QB, maybe things fall into place and another championship....

...but I think more likely not. Competitive, maybe playoffs but no championships. League and refs hate him too much, and his decisioning and game planning in the big games has not been great in recent years. Last legit chance we had to win a championship Zimmer crushed him coaching wise and we exited playoffs early.

If I am Loomis and my job is also to consider running the team as a business that has to maximize revenue, I might then take Payton back. Energy and fan interest would be restored and competitive play down to the final games keeps seats filled and tickets sold...

No brainer for me. SP back, to finish his career here. I know it isn’t happening.

Some say that it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

Certainly it's true with Sean Payton and New Orleans. We are all better for it.

Not like the 3 exes I have gone through since Sean became head coach of the Saints.

He was more loyal than all three of those women.

I can and do appreciate that.

But at this point its better to move on and see what exciting and terrifying new things the future may hold.

Gimme the picks.

We need 2 years of this crap, high 1st rd pick in 24, out of salary cap h377, fresh start with Payton as coach, just like he came in 2006

We can find a new winning coach.
And just how do you know that? HC just like the draft is a crap-shoot. Keep the mid-level 1st and MAYBE 2nd rd picks I'll take a proven winner
