DT Sedrick Ellis, USC
BUZZ: Ellis was one of nine USC players in attendance, and he performed like a super blue-chip prospect. He had a dominant performance and displayed explosive power on the inside. He was exceptionally quick on the snap, and got into the backfield often. He has been a top-10 prospect the entire year, and he probably moved up further off the week's effort. His versatility and production as a senior were outstanding.

LB Dan Connor, Penn State
BUZZ: Connor displayed fine fundamentals and was able to adjust quickly to a new system. He is quick to read and react, and showed he has the ability to get through traffic and finish the play. He is like a coach on the field. His instincts toughness, and athleticism give him a chance to really shine in this game.

I am not a Dan Connor fan he is too limited physcially to be what we need.

thank you!!!!! especially at 10. Poz went in the second and we have people wanting to take him at 10? i don't get how this is smart draft etiquette? especially how deep lbs are this year.

If we draft any linebacker that can either stuff the run, help on pass rush, or cover TEs then we would be upgrading or Linebackers..... so I dont see a problem with Connor, especially if he anything like Thomas was in Miami...... which the right up about connor reminds me of thomas....

The guys on Sirius Radio, who were broadcasting while the practices were going on, were raving about Conner (along with Rivers) and how surprisingly athletic he is compared to what they were expecting. So maybe the initial thoughts on Connor not being very atheletic were flat out wrong. But we'll see about that in the near future.

Pat Kirwan is one of the hosts on Sirius and he really seems to know his stuff. Here's what he had to say about Connor in an article that was posted in another thread:

1. DAN CONNOR, 6-3, 230, Penn State

From the first practice, Connor jumped out as a tremendous middle linebacker with range, the ability to key and diagnose, with all the instincts required to be a great player. When a guy posts 410 tackles in a college career, sometimes you wonder if maybe his stats were padded, that maybe he was getting credit for every time he got to a pile. But that's not the case with Connor. He lines up the defense and meets all of the running backs at the line of scrimmage. It's great to see his pass drops, which he performs with smoothness and an eye on the route progressions. On one play he's holding off the deep middle, and on the next he's colliding a slant route. When the linebackers this week went to their blitz period against the running backs, he made an even bigger impression when he made three different backs simply miss him when he rushed. On two other occasions he won with a bull rush and came back with a spin move to get to the QB. "Connor could play in any scheme, 4-3 or 3-4, and excel as a rookie," said one GM. "He reminds me of Lofa Tatupu of the Seattle Seahawks, except bigger."

I would be happy with Conner, we need to upgrade on defense he may be a reach at ten but he is not much of a risk. He will start immediately ,and be an upgrade as a rookie. If Ellis is still there you would have to go with Ellis.

When have we ever reached for a player? We will go BPA and Conner won't be it. Rivers, maybe. Ellis definently if hes there.

I think Bonchie was talking about this current staff.

Far from it they have found Colston and Pierre which more than makes up the other RB we cut loose (can't even think of his name from Ohio St I think). Pittman maybe?

No one looks fast in a Penn State uniform.

Different Game Nowdays

The only difference is the overall size of some of the players and there are players who are considered undersize who play well (Thomas, Vilma, fletcher, etc) Connor is bigger than Zack Thomas.

if people wanted to compare anyone to a Zach thomas they would look at Dizon. Doesn't have all the physical attributes but is a player.

A lot of people on this board get too carried away with how some measures and forgets about important attributes that it takes to play positions.

if Connor isn't worth being picked at ten then Rivers definitely isn't.
