Bc with a new hire, there would most likely be a more extensive HC search. You would afford a fresh new hire more time. Awhile back, I posted a “timeline” of events that went down, which caused us to make a more quick decision (DA) based on the bad timing of SP’s decision. Loomis only had a little over two months to find someone and many of the highly sought after candidates were already taken. Some have referred to the DA hiring as “lazy” and that is valid, but I just view it as a “comfort” hire. Given the lack of time and options available, it was a streamline hire and he hasn’t produced, which looks really bad imho
Possibly but that sounds more like an explanation meant to support a particular hope.
It's possible that Loomis was blind-sided by Payton's decision but as close as those two are reported to be, I think Loomis had some advanced knowledge to at least get the process laid out to hit the ground running.
Payton resigned January 25th (?) and Pederson (interviewed with the Saints), O'Connell, and McMichael were all February hires. Dabol was announced January 29th, so that process might have been too far advanced for the Saints to jump in.
I haven't seen much interest expressed in Hackett and Eberflus here but agree the timing is an issue in their respective cases. Bowles, like Allen, was an internal hire. Lovie Smith was highly sought after? Josh McDaniels?
I don't think Loomis and Benson view Allen as a placeholder that they will have a quick hook with, though it won't disappoint me if that turns out to be the case.
