One of the simplest, most effective tactics in the book. Ramsey is playing off, but Olave still releases off the line at about 80% speed. This gets Ramsey lagging in his backpedal, allowing Olave to eat up his cushion. On his 7th step, Olave punches to the skinny post and flips it to 100. That simple variation in speed puts him 3 steps ahead of Ramsey by the time he transitions. Nothing fancy, just smart. Veteran stuff.

The thing about Olave is his stride, arm swing, body position at 80% speed looks the same as it does at 100. It makes it very difficult for a CB in his backpedal to judge. By the time Ramsey reacts to his break, he's already beat.

I was just pleased to see Olave catch a pass and not immediately go to the turf.
They even threw him a quick WR screen! I couldn’t believe it! I thought Olave was just going to catch that and instantly go down or get out of bounds, but he actually tried to get some tough yards!!! It really surprised me!

Maybe the most positive thing you’ve said in a while! Congrats!

What was the coverage? Quarters or Cover 1?
Looked like a 3x1 adjustment out of quarters (we call it Special). Basically quarters to the field and a bracket coverage to the boundary.

Functionally, Ramsey was man to man on Olave, only he's playing outside leverage. That gave Olave a straight release to the post, and he kept it skinny so the safety couldn't make a play on the ball.

Guys I really don’t think most people on this board appreciate the type of talent we have. And we were fortunate to get him. I know we had to trade up but sometimes you just have to pay for quality. I would make this trade over and over again. This guy will be in our lineup for the next decade. He is special.

For all those who keep whining about the fact that we gave up next year‘s first round pick, just know that there are some of us that think it was totally worth it. THERE I SAID IT!

Dude is top 10 in the league in yards and missed a game or two with injury. He's very likely OROY and is playing like a veteran 11 games in. Whoever made that trade was a genius and it's a crying damn shame that we haven't had MT, Landry and Olave on the field with a healthy line and QB for the season.

That's never been a part of Olave's game, ever. Even in college. Unless it's easy YAC (one man to beat) or designed YAC, he's taking the sure catch and playing for the next down. You'll never see him try to fight for extra yardage in a crowd of defenders. Why would he? He doesn't have the body type for it, nor is it something he's ever excelled at. But the Torry Holt/Marvin Harrison type of separation ability is special and something we should be extremely grateful for.

This and this. Trying to think of the perfect X to compliment Olave and it's MT. He really needs to get healthy and they need to restructure that contract.

Just throwin' this in here, didnt want to start another thread....

I think it's great that he is putting on a showcase for himself. I think if all the talent was healthy, we might not have seen this much from him, so in a way, we are really seeing what he can do for us.
