So the buzz is that the Chargers is a likely landing spot for Sean Payton. Assuming they end up drafting at about 10 or so, what two approaches to the QB situation would be most acceptable to you?

poll public.

Write in options welcome.

This might not be popular, and it contains a few "ifs", but if Payton does coach again and if we get a #1 for him, I would not be against using that 2023 #1 and 2024's #1 to move up to get the exact QB we covet if we don't think he'll be there when we pick. A caveat - I'd prefer this scenario with a whole new coaching regime. If DA is still here, I'm ok with taking the BPA with our Payton Comp #1 pick and reserving 2024's #1 for the next coach to pick a QB.

I chose “It doesn’t matter as long as Dennis Allen is HC” because I believe that to be undeniably true.

For my 2nd choice, I went with:

“Use whatever draft capital necessary to trade up for the clear best QB in draft”

…and the QB is without a doubt, Bryce Young.

Once Dennis Allen proves his gross ineptitude with a talent like Bryce Young, he’d get the axe quickly… Bryce Young is going to be a stud franchise QB.

I don't want Allen and PC nowhere near this decision

Edit...so my votes are...doesn't matter because if Allen and PC are here....and let Dalton run it back. That's their guy, they should sink or swim w/ him. Give him a full camp and season for 2023, let him either succeed or fail, then clean house if he fails.

FIFY.

Our Best approach to our QB situation is to fire the HC.
At least that seems to be the popular Step 1

I just don't see how you keep Carmichael and draft one of these RPO QB's in the draft. Even with Taysom, he doesn't do that much with it. They need to bring in someone who specializes in that offense and affix it to whoever they draft. These coaches don't seem to teach the concept well either because everytime they play a RPO QB, he torches the heck out of them.

If we want to start fresh with a new QB then I see us being 2-3 years away from being competitive again. I also dont see that QB in this year’s draft class. However, we have to clear cap space and dead money to start fresh. Amazing players like Cam, DD, AK, MT13 and pretty much any veteran player over 27 needs to be released or traded.

So, I want to play the long game. Suck it up next year and clear every dollar of dead cap. Trade away as many draft picks as possible for future picks and go all in on the best QB in 2024 draft. If that QB isnt there then trade two first round picks for future picks and use the rest to start rebuilding through the draft. It may be 2026 again until we are competitive but we should be built for another long run.

Once we get the QB of the future then we can start adding key players in free agency while cashing in all of our draft collateral.

I’d rather sign Minshew and take a chance on a 2nd or 3rd round QB this year. I’m not sold on Young or Stroud as NFL QB’s. Neither Bama or OSU have produced quality NFL starting QB’s despite being top programs with superstar talent.

Mac Jones looked like he would break that his rookie year but has lost his job to Zappe. Hurts has been the best QB from either Bama or OSU and even he isn’t a great passer but he is a great athlete. Levis may be good but he’s struggled and I wouldn’t consider him a sure thing. I think some of the later QB’s may wind up being better than the top 2.

I'm in this boat and it wasn't a poll option.
