Saints FA: (as listed per TSN.com)

2008 Veteran free agents
piece of work. Unsigned Age FA type
S J. Bellamy 35 Unrestricted
DE Jo. Cooper 27 Unrestricted
WR T. Copper 25 Unrestricted
C J. Faine 26 Unrestricted
C J. Goodwin 29 Unrestricted
K M. Gramatica 32 Unrestricted
WR D. Henderson 25 Unrestricted
TE Eric Johnson 28 Unrestricted
QB Jamie Martin 37 Unrestricted
LB M. McCoy 25 Unrestricted
TE B. Miller 30 Unrestricted
G J. Nesbit 31 Unrestricted
WR D. Patten 33 Unrestricted
LB M. Simoneau 31 Unrestricted
RB A. Stecker 32 Unrestricted
CB F. Thomas 34 Unrestricted
DE R. Wynn 33 Unrestricted
DT Brian Young 30 Unrestricted

My vote is to keep the following: Josh Cooper, Jeff Faine, Goodwin (because he can play C/G), Gramtica, Eric Johnson (give him 1 more year), Billy Miller, David Patten, Brian Young.

I'm on the fence about Stecker (need to figure out where Deuce stands, and he'd be tough to let go.

Copper could be kept, but he contributed very little this year.

Devery, while flashing all-pro potential on 1 of every 35 targets, is too inconsitent to sink money into.

Simoneau should be gone...he's just not strong enough / athletic enough to play MLB. We need someone who can flow from side line to sideline and fill the gaping holes that our DTs leave (yes, we need better play from our DTs as well...which would immediately make our LBs better.

I'd like to replace Nesbit, I think he's the weak link of our line, and a FA guard like Alan Faneca or Ryan Lilja from the Colts.

Any thoughts on who we should and shouldn't keep?

I'd be fine with letting Johnson walk frankly. Billy Miller has done a very admirable job IMO and I think spending the money on defense is a better investment.

Keep J. Goodwin, J.Nesbit, D.Patten, and M.Gramatica.. let the others go and get us a more experienced defense through FREE AGENTS...
through FA try and sign 3 to 4 of these guys D.Florence, C.Williams, Terrel Suggs, Lance Briggs or a WR...
DRAFT...
1. Rivers or Connor
2. Best DT or CB on the board
3. E.Royal or DJ Hall
4. C.Steltz or J. Adams
5. Best CB on the board
6. BPA
7. BPA
I know we may not be able to sign all this guys in FA but 3 to 4 players of these players could make a impact on the team... that said with these draft picks we could have a chance to the deep into the playoffs or superbowl... WE HAVE TO SPEND A LIL MONEY IN ORDER TO COMPETE...

S J. Bellamy 35 Unrestricted NO, age and will not challenge to start.
DE Jo. Cooper 27 Unrestricted Yes, he is young and can start in a pinch.
WR T. Copper 25 Unrestricted Yes, he is good on special teams.
C J. Faine 26 Unrestricted Yes, OL cohesiveness is too important.
C J. Goodwin 29 Unrestricted Yes, he is a great backup and maybe a starter.
K M. Gramatica 32 Unrestricted Yes, Mare is bad.
WR D. Henderson 25 Unrestricted No, we can get a ball boy to drop passes.
TE Eric Johnson 28 Unrestricted No, he is not worth the money.
QB Jamie Martin 37 Unrestricted Yes, solid backup.
LB M. McCoy 25 Unrestricted Yes, he is young and has starting experience.
TE B. Miller 30 Unrestricted Yes, he is a solid reciever and blocker.
G J. Nesbit 31 Unrestricted Yes, but only for back up money.
WR D. Patten 33 Unrestricted Yes, solid deep threat and will sign for 1 year.
LB M. Simoneau 31 Unrestricted No, obviiously.
RB A. Stecker 32 Unrestricted Yes, if he will sign for 1-2 million.
CB F. Thomas 34 Unrestricted No, he is done.
DE R. Wynn 33 Unrestricted Yes, great backup and versatility.
DT Brian Young 30 Unrestricted No, too much for a guy who is undersized and hurt.

This is really going to depend on what the players want in order to stay. We certainly need to make improvements and we can only do that if we get good deals when we resign players.

I would far rather resign Mark Simoneau to a cheap deal and have him back up a potential rookie draft pick then overpay for a very talented Jeff Faine.

I would get every deal we can and allow every player asking for too much to explore their options elsewhere.

DE Jo. Cooper 27 Unrestricted
WR T. Copper 25 Unrestricted
C J. Faine 26 Unrestricted
C J. Goodwin 29 Unrestricted
K M. Gramatica 32 Unrestricted
WR D. Henderson 25 Unrestricted
TE Eric Johnson 28 Unrestricted
TE B. Miller 30 Unrestricted
G J. Nesbit 31 Unrestricted
WR D. Patten 33 Unrestricted
By the way... one could easily argue that Goody was an improvement when asked to "fill in" at center.

DE Jo. Cooper 27 Unrestricted
WR T. Copper 25 Unrestricted
C J. Faine 26 Unrestricted
C J. Goodwin 29 Unrestricted
K M. Gramatica 32 Unrestricted
TE B. Miller 30 Unrestricted
G J. Nesbit 31 Unrestricted
WR D. Patten 33 Unrestricted

That's who I'd go with.

Here's who I would resign and why:

2008 Veteran free agents
piece of work. Unsigned Age FA type
S J. Bellamy 35 Unrestricted...NO..If we need to sign him during the year, we can. No one else is going to knock on his door.

DE Jo. Cooper 27 Unrestricted...YES...He's done a good job of filling in and gives us some relief for the draft at this position.

WR T. Copper 25 Unrestricted....YES...he's worthy of a two year deal and can help out on special teams if need be.

C J. Faine 26 Unrestricted...YES....to a one year deal. He can carry the load, but we have others that are being groomed for the position. But we still need to snag one in the draft to groom too.

C J. Goodwin 29 Unrestricted...YES....to a 4 year deal. Filled in great last year...could work his way into starting at some poitn.

K M. Gramatica 32 Unrestricted....YES...proved that we NEED a kicker and a kickoff specialist.

WR D. Henderson 25 Unrestricted...NO...let him walk. He's had more than enough time to grow and hasn't produced.

TE Eric Johnson 28 Unrestricted....NO....too many injuries for the salary he commands.

QB Jamie Martin 37 Unrestricted....NO....unless he wants to play for the minimum. We need a shot of youth here and Payton likes projects.

LB M. McCoy 25 Unrestricted....YES...young and can play special teams.

TE B. Miller 30 Unrestricted...YES....proved last year he belongs in the Saints organization and has a special bond with Brees as a go to target.

G J. Nesbit 31 Unrestricted....NO....time to move on

WR D. Patten 33 Unrestricted...YES...to a one year deal, so Meachem has the pressure off to produce.

LB M. Simoneau 31 Unrestricted...NO...time to move on
RB A. Stecker 32 Unrestricted....YES....proved he can play and Duece's injury is not a given he'll be able to come back at 100%.

CB F. Thomas 34 Unrestricted....YES....if for nothing else than TC material. Let him fight for a roster spot.

DE R. Wynn 33 Unrestricted....NO.....played well, but at 33, we need to get younger here.

DT Brian Young 30 Unrestricted....NO....hurt too much and we can spend that money elsewhere.

FA: DT, MLB, CB, and OG. Draft: LB, LB, CB, DT, WR, OL, S Undrafted Pickups: LB, WR, TE, QB

DE Jo. Cooper 27 Unrestricted
WR T. Copper 25 Unrestricted
C J. Faine 26 Unrestricted
C J. Goodwin 29 Unrestricted
K M. Gramatica 32 Unrestricted
TE B. Miller 30 Unrestricted
G J. Nesbit 31 Unrestricted
WR D. Patten 33 Unrestricted

That's who I'd go with.

Its gonna be hilarious when Henderson is resigned, I can't wait to see how this board reacts, I agree with your list, except I feel Cooper (DE) shouldn't be resigned, I think Wynn can fill in for both spots and we can draft an edge rusher for pass rushing situations...I think Henderson will be resigned because he is just another toy for Payton to play with even though he drops the ball, he still brings the "deep threat" to our passing offense, sure Meachem can be that guy but until he proves he is we need Devery and he will be a cheap resign because of his poor play in a contract win, its a smart resigning if u ask me.

I would like to go on record and say though I think he will be resigned, I wouldn't be surprised if they let him go....cause he was a BIG disappointment.
