USMNT - The Berhalter Era (3 Viewers)

The plot thickens…

alright that's starting to make a bit more sense
was confused why these 'allegations' that he's admitted to and seeming his now wife has gotten past are now popping up
it seemed like it was some pretext to not offer him a new contract but that seemed to be unnecessary and underhanded

we live in an age where parent(s) inject themselves into situations that simply dont warrant their involvement.

It takes restraint, as a parent, for sure, but this behavior reeks of entitlement and for me, crossed the line into "retribution" territory.

still wonder why Gio acted how he did when told of his minimal involvement?

This type of sheet happens at the youth level all the way up. unreal.

This has turned into a full on s show. It really has.

I dont want to say Berhalter asked for this, because this is just underhanded manipulation, but he had to know disrespecting the son of 2 for US soccer players wasnt going to end well. And Im not talking about not playing him in the WC. I dont agree with Berhalter telling, at worst, your 2nd most talented player that he isnt going to get a lot of minutes before the WC even started. I dont agree with a lot Berhalter did with Gio. Gio had to suck it up and train his A off regardless of how disappointed he was, and how he was probably right to be teed off. Im talking about the post world cup leadership conference stuff. Berhalter shouldve left well enough alone and move on.

I didn want Berhalter back. I was hoping Gio would learn from this and grow up, put it behind him and prep for the rest of the Bundesliga slate and get ready for 2026. But now his mom is injecting herself into his career? This isnt u15, this is the senior national team. He plays in the top division in Germany.

Feels like Gio's mom made Gio's soccer redemption path longer, more difficult and more drawn out.

The new manager is going to really have to get this whole thing smoothed over and quick. We need Reyna, but we dont need anymore of this drama.

I wonder if Gio supports what his mother did, or if he's P'Oed at her. No doubt she quite possible made things more difficult for him, and not only with USAMNT.

"Hey Gio, you need your mommy to help you?"

maybe he miscalculated on his "approach" to Gio and thinking the approach he used would be received and understood and he would be professional about. ( considering his "stock" )

Looks like he miscalculated.

I am souring on Gio - i dont think he has gotten to a place where he has this "lebron" ability to call shots. But now hearing both Claudio and Danielle are involved, its becoming "Ball"-ish. ( Lonzo/Lorenzo etc )

And i guarantee you they dont do same with BvD, knowing full well they peep about this or that, BvD just sells him off. They are exercising their clout within US Soccer to benefit their son. Which, on the surface, i dont have an issue with per se- but something of THIS magnitude REQUIRES you to disassociate your desires of "parent protection". It quickly morphs into entitlement.

Lavar Ball was the first thing that popped in my head.

I have a feeling thats going to follow him from stadium to stadium. IMO the fans are worse in the Prem, so Bundesliga might be a good place to stay, if he isnt sold off.

Complication to all of this recent stuff is the Reyna’s relationship to greggg
I mean the woman greggg assaulted - who is now his wife- was mom’s roommate/teammate
They’ve all been friends for decades
So this isn’t just a soccer karenmom mouthing off

it kinda is.

She had NO place to air that laundry 2 decades LATER mind you.

How is it that they moved right past the coach/player relationship and went directly to personal attack? Gregg didnt attack Gio personally, he questioned is work ethic, on the field. Somehow that got twisted into some personal attack? Thats on the Reynas' for not clearly marking their lines.

Did they assume since there was history he would just get favorable status?

Not advocating (more like devils advocating)

Her point seems to be ‘Gio acted up, you called him out, Gio apologized and everything was chill’
Then greggg went and blabbed at the leadership conference
That was what prompted her response- that greggg kept poking at it

Danielle Reyna said in a statement on Wednesday: "I thought it was especially unfair that Gio, who had apologized for acting immaturely about his playing time, was still being dragged through the mud when Gregg had asked for and received forgiveness for doing something so much worse at the same age."

None of this means the Reynas are right, but it reemphasizes how completely stupid greggg was blabbing about this

Triple G was stupid 30 years ago and at the world cup. I can forgive 30 years ago...his wife sure has, but I can't get over the lack of leadership he showed outing a player discipline situation.

I can kind of understand the context of Gio's mom defending her son and in passing asking why her son wasn't treated equally by Triple G considering his past youthful poor decisions.

The entire situation is emblematic of a larger problem with leadership at the US Soccer. They don't communicate regularly/clearly with their constituents and they aren't transparent about their decision making.

Triple G should have been thanked for his service and a new coaching search should have commenced at the end of the World Cup. Rarely is a national team coach extended for a second cycle and our team did not improve enough to even consider extending him.

Biggest question is what was seen as a gain/good for her son by going on the offensive? How does this improve his reputation or standing?
