USMNT - The Berhalter Era (2 Viewers)

But apparently not good enough to make the USMNT WC roster....what a frickin joke....Berhalter has to go.....
Well…a 3+ game knockout tournament is different than a 38 game season
That being said, aside from not knowing how to keep his pie hole shut and let sleeping dogs lie, greggg’s use/not use of 9s is his biggest weakness

According to something I saw, Pepi hung up on 3G when he was told he wouldn’t be selected for the WC.

I knew it...this mess is going to be more damaging than we think.

Good for him, I have zero respect for a coach that doesn't know who the players are.....

Let’s pump the brakes a bit here
He also turned down Brazil and Portugal
And would we really want a coach who shoes away from the team bc ‘drama’??
What national club doesn’t have drama? Maybe Iceland?

In fact the savvy coach probably sees the benefit in coming to a place where the fault lines are obvious
Much better that coming into a ‘harmonious’ place where you don’t discover the fault lines until it’s too late

IMO the more that comes out about Berhalter at this point, the better. Im not for laying things on him like Mommy Reyna did, but in order for US Soccer to recover, it has to be know how wrong Berhalter was for the job. And Im not advocating blackmail, Im talking about on the field, roster, personnel decisions etc. Not the off the field/out of Us Soccer stuff. We need to flip this around pretty quick.....but we may need to devolve even more in order to really show how much Berhalter was the wrong guy.

You can replace Berhalter. But this isnt club. You cant just go out and get players. National team football, you only have whats its the pool.

The lack of forward thinking in these 2 situations are mind boggling. 1) Telling Gio that he wasnt going to be used much and 2) not taking Pepi to Qatar. Its absolutely insane really.

Gio was blindsided by it, and that caused his reaction to sandbag training. He was 19. Imagine being 19, playing in a top league on a pretty good team, knowing you should be on the pitch - and being told nah, we wont be using you much. I dont agree with his reaction, but 19 year olds deal with things differently. Its still the biggest head scratcher of the entire cycle, why Berhalter decided pre WC to alienate one of his most talented players.

And the lack of forward thinking. The weakness of this team is very clearly stryker. Pepi is IMO the guy with the best skillset to develop into the 9 by 2026. And he is right now no worse than Wright or Ferreira, neither of which should be talked about for 2026. So why not take him? Instead you bring Wright and Ferreira, and other guys Morris, Moore, Roldan, etc. Its just makes no sense.

Pulisic out a month or more at Chelsea. We are killing it out the gate on the next cycle.

The biggest issue is that US Soccer is a very small circle. They’ve all grown up together, played together, raised children together, etc. I saw something where outside of Klinsmann, we haven’t had a coach not from NY/NJ in 25 years. The pool needs to be broadened if we’re going to get away from the insular nature of US Soccer. We need someone from the outside with no ties and who will deal in what’s shown on the pitch, versus whose parents he knows.

kinda glad about this
as much as i want to move on from greggg, this wasn't the direction i wanted to go
BUT
that's one big resigning (France) and now one signing - dominoes are falling and USMNT needs to be making a (the right) decision soon
