Is Pat White NFL material? (1 Viewer)

Want your views on this one. He does not have the size of a prototype NFL QB but man he brings a lot to the table that makes him special. I mean I'm an Auburn fan but I am dead *** scared of him when we play the Mountaineers in Morgan town next year simply because of White's abiltiies. He is a local boy here from Daphne, Alabama so I saw him grow into the QB he is now, I think their is some potential with this guy. He does not have the passing skills down yet but if you improve that along with his running skills, he is a dangerous QB even now at the college level potetially.

If you are an NFL team, do you take a chance on him next year in the 2009 draft, he is very tempting to take if you want a multi-dimensional QB who can in theory do it all.

Just keep your eyes on this guy, he could be a topic we could revisit pretty soon this time next year.

I'd take him either in the 7th, or UDFA, and move him to WR and make him a special teamer... but here's where it would get fun... I would throw in about 4 or plays each game with the zone read, and put him in the shotgun with Reggie... just a change of pace... but very fun to watch.

I've been a White fan since high school too. He reminds me of Seneca Wallace.

If he gets room to run he can fly. He's actually a great baseball player too. in fact, he was drafted by the Angels? out of high school to pitch but turned them and 6 or 700,000 bucks down to play for the Mounties. It'd be nice to see him improve his passing skills... for my sake I hope he does. I'm still hoping to get us into the Championship game against an SEC opponent to see how we stack up. I think we'll have a better showing than the Big 10.

Anyway... if he doesn't have some big-time improvement in his passing skills, he'd be a worthy pick at around 3-5 to me. I'd do what Holmgren has been doing with Wallace. I'd use him as an offensive weapon until his passing game is worthy of making him your backup QB.

If he wants to play WR full-time that'd be cool. If his heart is set on QB then let the play on the field proof that notion.

If this guy gets a seam or wrinkle in the defense he can Michael Vick you!

No, but I'm a believer that multi-deminsional QB's coming from a spread system are worthless in the NFL in the long run (Vick, Young, Smith). Unless a QB excels at passing he'll never be an elite QB.

I agree with you on that account. White could be a good change of pace player but I don't see him being a top level guy. On the same note I think FL's Tebow could be in the same boat in a couple of years...... I am sure he will get picked high but coming from that offense he will need a lot of work to be NFL ready.

I'd not let him get past round 6. You can bet that the Alabama crowd would be happy to have him in a Saints uni. Drafting local talent is not just homerism it's good business.

With New Coach, A New Sport for Pat White?

Now that Bill Stewart has taken over a few things are already beginning to change. Stewart seems to run less of a football dictatorship then his predecessor. Backup quarterback Jarrett Brown is allowed to play under Bob Huggins, and has begun to contribute to the WVU basketball program. West Virginia is currently considered a football school, but if Brown is allowed to play hoops than Pat White should be able to pull a Prime Time.

White is not only a highly talented NCAA quarterback; he has serious baseball ability as well. Just ask the 2002 World Series Champion Los Angeles Angels. The Angels have drafted White twice, but he has stuck with football both times. The Angels tried to take him once out of high school, and once after his sophomore year of eligibility in college.

Based on a typical NFL scouts rationale White is undersized and would not make a formidable pro quarterback. White may have a heart the size of his native Alabama, but there is no way he will be the next Randall Cunningham.

It’s clear the best way for White to make it as a pro athlete would be in baseball. Albeit the current Angels roster is straight stacked with outfielders. Torii Hunter, Gary Matthews Jr., Vlad Guerrero and Garret Anderson would mean no playing time for White at this point.

The sad thing about the NFL is that it will never know how great Patrick White is. That's the difference between NFL and College ball and what makes college ball so much fun to watch: Guys like Patrick White. He may make it to a roster; they'll ask him to play WR, but he's too small to play QB. He'll go around from roster to roster for a few years then he'll disappear. Hopefully that's not the case; we'll see.

Lucky for Young he road the number 1 defense to the playoffs despite one of the worst statistical seasons for a QB ever. Being a winner will only get you so far. You've got to be an elite passer in the NFL to succeed over the long haul.
