The report references @OfficialSOLI, it is important to know who SOLI is before evaluating the subject matter in that report.

As you can see SOLI is kind of like what James Vasquez is doing as an individual and with Ripley's heroes are doing together to increase his individual effect.

It is not significant other than as a pin point effort which affects a very few number of Ukrainian irregular troop units, which are by the day being drawn out of the combat areas as the regular Ukrainian forces are finishing their mobilization and training are taking their place on the lines.

There was a point early on where those irregular relatively untrained units were very necessary because their was not enough regular units to cover the front lines.

What is significant is in the last batch of stuff we've promised, and the previous batches as well, is night vision gear that the US is sending to Ukraine. We're supplying that gear in large numbers. It is clear that is having an effect by the shear number of videos I've recently seen of front line battlefield action which is using those night vision systems.

So your sentiment about it is not wrong. But is already has been addressed and as quickly as the US probably can deal with that deficiency, the US is dealing with it.

The ability to do night operations to club the baby seals where they sleep is probably more important than having main battlefield tanks.

I agree. Especially with the last line. I'm just surprised. I thought that this would have been among the first things we supplied. Same for long range
(150km min) artillery and missiles. Imagine how different the situation would look if they had all of this stuff in Sept. I know logistics and training are difficult issues but since when does difficult or complicated translate to "We can't do it."?

I would say he played himself.... but he played the whole country.

Yeah, somewhere between "not necessarily exact" down to 1/3 of "not necessarily exact".

If I understand correctly, these reported numbers are compiled from what can be verified by Ukraine via "eyewitness" or social media chatter. There could be many many more that Ukraine cannot accurately count and Russia isn't willing to supply accurate numbers.

I saw a video of a targeted building beeing blown up. When it was over the voice of the drone pilot says something to the effect of "Scratch 200 Russians." I sure hope that's not how they do it.

You beat me to posting this one.

:)

I count 30 Brady's and 3 Bradly recovery vehicles. Which amounts to 1/2 of the first batch of 60 which were promised.

That's about enough for 6, perhaps 7 or 8 infantry rifle Platoons. Or 30 Platoons if they are matched up with 90 wheeled armored personnel carriers that they already have.

If they go with that ratio for all of the 60 Bradly's to be matched with 180 wheeled armor personal carriers they already have, those 60 Bradly's which were promised in that first batch it would outfit one complete combat Battalion. Enough to spearhead a small offensive thrust like the one which opened up the Kharkiv offensive action last fall.

When you say "I sure hope that's not how they do it," I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to.

You could be meaning how they count the dead. Or you could be meaning the voice over language they are using to celebrate the deaths of 200 "scratched" Russians.

In the event that it's the language they are using, that is perfectly normal for perfectly normal people after a perfectly normal war has gone on for several months.

The degree to which perfectly normal warfare generates perfectly normal breathtaking hatred amount perfectly normal combatants is well,,,breathtaking. They are perfectly normal victims of war, not monsters.

Rambo is a time worn story of the perfectly normal aftermath of perfectly normal wars.

Grimm isn't it?

I think he was referring specially to the counts. Unless I'm wrong, I think it's sort of how they do it, but only the numbers they can confirm, which is why lots of people think it could be a WHOLE LOT more.

Like if the video guy says 200, but no one can actually confirm on the Ukraine side, then they would go to the social media chatter from the Russians about the incident and try to determine what number goes into the count for that event.

Again, I could be way off.

I think they get their estimates from a combination of collected data. First, chatter about troop movement, second from US intel like chatter and satelite info, third just observing troop movement over a length of time. They probably put all that info in a pile and make an educated guess. I'm sure they probably add about 20% to the estimate for morale purposes.

I think 200 is the code number for dead, not necessarily the number dead.

Earlier today I said I didn't buy the argument that a Thorsten Benner tweet made.

Now Phillips O'Brien uses that same tweet as a good bad example of irresponsible reporting about Germany about the Leopard tank issue.

O'Brien shows in this article that Ukraine is not upset about the results of that Ramstein meeting, they are delighted with the results.

One of the indications of narcissism is someone who routinely gives another what they want to give them, rather than what that person actually wants and needs. Ask first before bearing great gifts is my advice for all great gift giving.

Yes, a very good week for UKR. But, it was no thanks to Germany. The rest of NATO stepped up their commitments to try and end this war sooner rather than later. Germany is really doing themselves a disservice with their policy. I’m not sure why they think they need to stay on good terms with putin because he won’t be in charge after this.
