Nielsen takes Falcons DC job (1 Viewer)

The Fontenot connection in Atlanta was certainly a factor. Before 2022, the defensive line was a team strength.

I have never liked the idea of Allen calling the defense and having two position coaches who are co-coordinators without play-calling responsibility. Bit I will concede I don't consider Allen a great defensive coach. Payton as an offensive coach is a talent. Not so Allen.

Sounds about right for Davenport to go to the Falcons and turn his career around with the enemy without the “two 1sts” pressure on his shoulders

The interview where Davenport revealed his confidence issues was a major red flag. What kind of defensive lineman has those and is successful? It's the exact opposite of Penning, dudes a fighter that needs to be held back. Davenport sounded like a pansy (and no I wouldn't say that to his face). He's a perfect fit for the Falcons.

Other than the fact our DT depth is non-existent, post PED Onyemata wouldn't be a big loss either.

That hurts as he is gonna be a successful head coach one day soon. In addition, the dirty birds get a quality defensive coach who knows everything about the Saints!
A case can be made that the Saints know everything about him too.

The added advantage is, the Saints players already had experience under his tutelage.

Falcon players will still be learning the system. He may take a couple of Saints players with him, but that's it.

I'm going to wait until the game is played before I pass judgment on the hire.

Now this makes Richard sole DC. Doesn’t that mean that he can’t leave now unless it’s a promotion from DC?
I believe he would have to be promoted and accept that promotion from the team. So hopefully Loomis got on that right away.

Add David Onyemata and Kaden Elliss to that list as well. The Turds have a bunch of cap space, and these 2 players are also FAs.

David... I don't mind losing.... Kaden leaving would bother me more
Ross Jackson just mentioned how Nielsen and Kaden Elliss have a strong relationship and Elliss credits Nielsen for a large part of his development as a NFL edge rusher.

If the Saints let Elliss get to free agency… I’d bet $$$ he signs with the Turds.
The Lions would be my 2nd guess.

Werner was playing at a pro bowl level before his injury. When Kaden filled in, he played very well. When Werner came back from injury, Kaden was playing better than him.

He was not playing "better" than Werner. The coaches started to play Ellis more in the base defense and he got more snaps in the pass rush packages, Ellis earned a bigger role because he's an improved player.

Sorry I disagree... I am saying he was playing better after Werner came back. I took it as Werner still recovering. But before the injury Werner was playing pro bowl level. And this coming from a Werner fan.

why does Brian Young never get promoted? It seems like he's been a pass rush specialist forever and never gotten the chance to move up to DL coach

Nielsen has been the DL Coach. Maybe Young gets promoted, but alot of these coaches are just part of the staff moreso than potential coordinates.

Yet they are both getting interviewed with one already getting a job. I'll let the actual facts stand over your opinion.
Hell, the results of the season are fact. Not my opinion. Rishard was Seattle’s DC. He did a pretty hood job there. Allen could have given him the DC job. But no. He’s too danged hard headed.
