Is the Saints Roster Attractive Enough to Lure Derek Carr? (1 Viewer)

And the "Raiders were a dumpster fire" being the ultimate tired post on the subject. Call something tired, while using the most tired excuse in the Allen excuse library. That he proved to be bs by started 4-9 here being exactly what he was in Oakland.

You have to think about it, the only guy below him on that list that coached the Raiders, was Hue Jackson - who went 8-8 the season before Allen went 4-12. Then 4-12 again. Then 0-4. And 2 years later Del Rio had them in the playoffs.
Fine. You’re right. DA is hopeless and it’s pointless to even try to make the team better. Let’s not even allow any discussion for improving the roster because, I mean, we’re all gonna die anyway and that’s probably DA’s fault, too.

It’s been pointed out to you already that there really isn’t anybody defending Allen and there wouldn’t be much of anything to base that on, if somebody wanted to. About the best that can be said is Payton expressed confidence in him for the job, and it’s entirely possible he doesn’t actually care what happens after he departed, or whatever you might want to come back with.

There’s still football to talk about and I appreciate the people who try and look ahead to the upcoming season with some consideration of the possibilities. It’s at least an interesting distraction from the disappointment and chorus of never ending doom and gloom. My expectations are low but football is a pastime.

Believe me, we all get it; you think Allen is the worst coach ever. Nobody is trying to change your mind. Some of us just want to talk about other things rather than wallow in that same pit of misery in every single thread.

The point we (never Dennisers) are trying to make is that trying to make this team better will only get us to maybe 8 wins...just enough to excuse keeping DA for another season while prolonging what is pretty much an inevitability - his eventual firing. Whether it's after '23, or 4 games into '24....he will eventually be fired. Why not just do it now and get us going in the right direction earlier.

Because we already know he isn’t getting fired this season so why harp on it. He’s coming back and with that, he’s going to do whatever he thinks improves the team. I don’t even see people trying to make a case in his favor about that, just that this is what is happening.

He’s coaching the Saints in 2023. He isn’t going to tank for Williams. It is what it is.

If you gave me the choice between a) 8 wins and b) 1 win and DA gone with us getting the number 1 pick? I’d take the tank every time.

But it’s not reality. It’s not happening. We aren’t tanking. We won 7 games with Andy Dalton and a ton of injuries.

So if we’re not gonna go full tank (we’re not), I’d rather put the best product on the field we can and enjoy Saints football.

David I completely agree with you on that he is coming back and there is nothing that’s going to change that and unfortunately I also agree with you he isn’t going to tank and we as a team even as much as I want us to are not going to tank and here is why. Ms. Benson cares about her players beyond just being players but as the humans that we fans rarely see them as.

From my extremely limited experience playing this game you put a ton into it before you even show up. Tanking in basketball is one thing but in football breaking a limb or risking worse is simply part of the job. You have to be a pretty sick owner to look at the 60 something men on your roster and say I know you’re risking life and limb but look we are out here trying not to win. I don’t think she has that in her and it’s why tanking in the NFL doesn’t happen you have to be Steven Ross, Jimmy Haslem or McNair to do something like that and they are a crook, a scumbag and a moron respectively. Ms. Benson is none of that so we aren’t tanking even if it’s the best idea and quickest way back to being a contender.

I think by keeping Allen AND Carmichael, while we may not tank, it is definitely not a commitment to winning...this season at least. I dont think we will purposefully try to lose games, and we do have the 2nd easiest schedule in the NFL. If you kept Allen, and fired Carmichael - while I wouldnt be thrilled they were keeping Allen, I could at least say they are trying. But keeping both, after the season we just watched, just isnt a committment to winning.

This might be a soft rebuild on Loomis part. Maybe Loomis sees this as a cut cap and rebuild year, and he doesnt want to bring in another coach to just fire him in a year, or an OC. Maybe Allen is just the bullet sponge for this rebuild. Thats the only thing that makes sense. Let them keep doing what theyre doing, and in 2024 we will begin again.

Pretending DA is THE reason Carr wouldn't want to come here is severely discounting the numerous other challenges this franchise faces right now. While I'm sure some folks could pick Carr's game apart and want better, I think him trying to overcome our current organizational challenges is the bigger issue. Beggars can't be choosy.

There are 32 starting quarterback jobs in the world. I think that the fact that we have an open position will be enough to lure a quarterback, who really wants to start.

Dennis Allen is still friends with Carr and they text each other pretty consistently.

If we were to get Carr, Allen would be a big reason why. Whether we like him as our HC or not.
True they might be friends. But Carr Realizes if he doesn't go to a good situation he isn't going to get that nice pay day. This is probably his last shot. A bad year, he might get relegated to a backup QB/reclamation project.

You know it’s bad when fans are wondering if the roster is good enough to ATTRACT Derek Carr lol
It's a fair question.
