Report: Raiders haven’t given Derek Carr permission to seek trade (1 Viewer)

The trouble with that is that Carr would be the franchise guy.
And if it were to happen, and we devoted a huge salary to him and he turns out to be no better than he performed this year.......
What would all the people saying he's that great have to say then?

Your numbers are correct according to overthecap.com but the message is a bit misleading imo.

If they cut him before June 1st this year, his dead cap hit total is $5.625M, which includes the dead cap number you list if they wait to cut him before June 1st in 2024 ($3.75M) and likewise waiting to cut him in 2025 ($1.875M).

And if he's cut before June 1st this year, the cap savings will be $29.25M this year as you posted. The team would also avoid paying his salary in 2024 ($41.9M) and in 2025 (another $41.2M).

So, one could argue that the Raiders total cap savings is $112.35M (spread out over 2023, 2024 and 2025) for a dead money hit of only $5.625M (against their 2023 cap).

I think your terming is incorrect because he's only a $5.625m total dead cap hit if he is a designated June 1 cut. The reason I didn't include that is because his 2023 base salary becomes fully guaranteed if he is not cut before February 16 and I am fuzzy on whether or not a post-June 1 designation can be used on contracts like that.

Either way it is an insignificant amount of dead money and this was probably the smartest structured $40m/yr contract given in the NFL.

Who is both of them? Winston is the only QB currently on our roster and his release is likely. Allen decided Hill was a TE. Dalton is a free agent.
You obviously knew who I meant.

Franchise QBs don't get released.

Someone is going to sign him to a big contract. Wherever he goes, he's that teams franchise QB. If you're going to keep looking for a starting QB in the draft, you don't pick up Carr as the QB. You don't invest $30+ a year for a QB you plan to bench in a year.

Carr is way better than any QB we have right now.
"Way better?"

Nothing backs that up though fam...

Other than the fact that there is nothing that really backs up that statement except "it's how I feel."

Completion %:
Carr-64.6%
Dalton - 62.5%
Winston - 61.3%

Passer Rating:
Carr - 91.8
Dalton - 87.6 (87.5 with Cincy)
Winston - 87.5 (86.9 with Bucs)

Yards Per Game:
Carr - 248 YPG
Dalton - 229.8 YPG (237 YPG with Cincy)
Winston - 254 YPG (274 YPG with Bucs)

TD Rate:
Carr - 4.4
Dalton - 4.6
Winston - 4.9

INT Rate:
Carr - 2.0
Dalton - 2.7
Winston - 3.4

And for those that care about ESPN's QBR
Carr - 52.7
Dalton - 52.35 (All Cincy years and this season)
Winston - 58.1 (All season in TB since he hasn't finished a full season here)

I'm assuming that he will be cut before February 15th because I highly doubt that the Raiders will find a trade partner to take on Carr's contract.

My understanding is unless he is designated as a post-June 1st cut, he is a pre-June 1st cut and his dead money hit will be $5.625M, all taken this year.

Not sure what "terming" I used is incorrect. Kindly elaborate.

Unfortunately, QBs that have played up to where Carr has played, costs money these days. There’s no way around that. Plus, when we signed Drew, no one expected a Super Bowl victory. Drew had to become the Drew Brees that we have come to know. Have to be willing to take a risk.
I wholeheartedly agree about taking a risk. With our cap situation that risk needs to be taken thru the draft imo. Cheap contracts. Tired of kicking the can down the road. That window is closed, time to start a new one.

You obviously knew who I meant.

I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt but you can't even say his name.

How can you blame the o-line for losses and then say someone as immobile as Dalton is just as good? A QB with an ounce of athleticism helps to offset the o-line issues. Dalton in his prime isn't as good as Carr, now he's on the level of spoiled milk.

We aren’t in position to draft a franchise QB this year. We need a 2-3 year bridge QB. If you want to roll out at 36-39 year old Andy Dalton, we can do that. I think Carr on a three year deal makes more sense.
