Report: Raiders haven’t given Derek Carr permission to seek trade (1 Viewer)

Regardless of how fans feel, you have to make an attempt to get him. He's better than what you have currently on the roster. I wouldn't overpay though, only if the price is right.
With our cap situation? Rather than take a shot on a QB in the draft? To me you go after Carr if you think he’s the missing piece to a Super Bowl. Imo he’s not. We aren’t close, and won’t be after losing players this off-season due to cap issues.

I'm assuming that he will be cut before February 15th because I highly doubt that the Raiders will find a trade partner to take on Carr's contract.

My understanding is unless he is designated as a post-June 1st cut, he is a pre-June 1st cut and his dead money hit will be $5.625M, all taken this year.

Not sure what "terming" I used is incorrect. Kindly elaborate.

His 2024 and 2025 dead money won't be escalated forward into a single year. If, rather when, he is cut, the Raiders will have dead money on their books for 2023, 2024, and 2025 from Carr's contract. The only way that dead money will total $5.625m is if he is a post-June 1 cut.

Not if I'm signing him. 3 years. I don't know how you know what kind of contract he's going to demand.
That sounds nice but we can't afford to pay him 30-35 per year straight up. You must make it 4-5 years to deal with the cap.

We aren’t in position to draft a franchise QB this year. We need a 2-3 year bridge QB. If you want to roll out at 36-39 year old Andy Dalton, we can do that. I think Carr on a three year deal makes more sense.
Anybody but Dalton. In his last ten games, he gave us 190 yards and 1.1 TD’s per game. We got 192 and 1.4 in our last ten games of 2021 with Hill, Book, and Siemian.

I am of the opinion if you make that move, you also draft Hendon Hooker in rd 2. I'm not confident the Saints will land him but they have to make an effort. You keep plugging away until you get your guy.

I wholeheartedly agree about taking a risk. With our cap situation that risk needs to be taken thru the draft imo. Cheap contracts. Tired of kicking the can down the road. That window is closed, time to start a new one.

That's what us fans think. That's not what Loomis and Allen believe. And Allen's sitting on a somewhat hot seat. No way he puts his job in the hands of a rookie QB.

We were competitive in a lot of games. Just let down by our offense/QB. It's not inconceivable that we can improve. Carmichael called a few good drives, maybe with an actual QB he can call some good games. He could have had the right plays called last year but they required a contested throw our QB wouldn't attempt. If we get a late first round pick we could also get us a much needed RB. Maybe Allen learned his lesson about being a lil birch and gets more aggressive next year. A lot of maybes but this team still has talent.

And if it were to happen, and we devoted a huge salary to him and he turns out to be no better than he performed this year.......
What would all the people saying he's that great have to say then?
Saying " at least they tried to get somebody unlike the last 4 seasons of sitting on their hands", but you still need to keep looking for a qb after his 1st season if he doesn't do well and do everything possible to keep acquiring draft pics for ammo. Use him as a bridge qb.

Our current coach probably thinks he's the missing piece to his job.

I think you can both be right.

3 year deal with 1-2 void years to spread out the cap. If he’s great, we restructure and pay him great QB money. If he’s not, hopefully you’ve got a QB on a rookie deal to smooth out the hit on the void years.

I agree about plays called versus throws made, I know PC gets bashed for running an offense that was 4-yard curls only, I think it was more we had a QB who leaned towards throwing 4-yard curls.

I can see that, though I think Carr gets a better offer elsewhere if that's what the Saints are offering. But, I'm kinda tired of Band-Aids. I'd rather just rip off the Band-Aid and go with a young QB and spend the money elsewhere till we find the right QB. If you're going to get meh QB play, I don't want to spend $30 million a year for it.

The thing that the Saints have to weigh is they could win with Carr. They could get to the playoffs and maybe win a playoff game. But, that's about as far as Carr is going to take them unless the defense is a lockdown defense.

If they want to find an elite QB, they will have to find one in the draft. But, there's no guarantee that they will find one even if they are drafting in the top 10. So, if you have an opportunity to get a guy like Carr it's kinda hard to refuse to pull the trigger even though it's probably better to pass on him. If my job were on the line like DA's is, I'd make every effort to get Carr and he would make or break my career.

We don’t have a first round pick. This team is not going to draft a 2nd or 3rd round QB and start him as a rookie. You can want it all you want, it’s not going to happen. Unless we make a move for Lamar Jackson, we’re probably looking at Carr or Dalton.
