Breaking! Sean to Denver for 2023 1st, 2024 2nd, send back a 24 3rd [MERGED] (2 Viewers)

I guess I just don't understand the logic behind: quick transition from finishing with the Saints...Whether it's retiring or quitting...and then a week later, he's talking about coaching again.

^ that's not something to be more talked about is what I don't understand. At-least wait a whole year before talking about coaching again. Not a whole damn week.

Water under the bridge. regardless.

Forget and take the love out of Sean Payton for a second...Let's apply this example to ANY coach as the example:

Coach says he's burnt out. Retiring from the team he coached. A week later, he's talking about coaching again.

Your girlfriend/wife ended things with you. Says it didn't work out and was burnt out from the whole relationship thing after 16 years, in general. Then, a week later, she's talking about potential new relationships again.

Like, what???

He was burnt out on the Saints. he tried to leave a few years ago (and we reportedly were going to allow it) but the Anthony Davis trade squashed that.

I never thought Payton would "retire" or that he was "burnt out" but some folks actually believed that nonsense.

Brees retired the year before - then Jameis got hurt - and Taysom didn't work out - he decided New Orleans was not much fun without Drew Brees. He left.

I believe it but I'd already heard from somebody I trust with connections to the Broncos that they trust, that Ryans was their preference. (A Rapoport tweet supports that rumor). I think the Broncos very much had some parameters in place in terms of the amount of risk they were willing to take, which was already likely higher than what they'd hoped for, if it's true that Ryans was their preferred choice. He wouldn't have required a trade and won't command the same salary since he's a first time head coach.

My speculation is the market for Payton was softer than anticipated, perhaps because of his demands, and Loomis made the best of the only viable deal left on the table.
Yes, they wanted Ryans or Harbaugh first but both turned them down multiple times. There were really no good options for them than to make a deal for SP. I'll bet cash $ we could have gotten more, like that bottom 1st this yr and a 1st next yr. Or at the very least not have to send back the 3 next yr. Loomis caved

Loomis is the first GM in two decades to get a first round pick for a coach. He did not cave.

He tried to leave for the Colts in 2017

He tried to leave for the Cowboys after the no-call.

That, to me, is attempting to finesse his way out.

But what's the point in bringing that up anyway? Everyone knew he was going to coach again for another team literally during his exit press conference. Do you want everyone to start calling Payton a bad guy or something? I just don't understand what point you're attempting to make.

I think this is clear to anyone willing to look at this objectively. And I was even giving Loomis credit yesterday when it looked like he was playing his hand well before news of the trade came out. I think he blinked first, and the result was us losing that 3rd rounder.

What’s the point of bringing up anything for any thread? Discussion

What’s the point of trying to figure out what my point is? If your answer is, “I’m just curious” then take that same response and apply it to my answer to the question you just asked me

Appreciate you for taking the time to list out some of the possible reasons as to why I would ask the question.

You could literally ask anyone with that question about anything that arises on this forum: “what’s the point of bringing the mistakes this and that player made? Are you trying get everyone to go against that player? Are you trying to get everyone to think this player is bad?”

I could also take your same logic and turn it against you: do you want everyone to start calling Payton a good guy or something? I just don’t understand the point of wanting me to not bring it up.

I made my point: that was, I made a statement: I was surprised not a lot of social media brought up how fast the transition was.

Period.

It truly feels like that NO ONE can bring up a negative view on any topic on here without being questioned

We didn’t lose a 3rd rounder. We swapped it for a second rounder.

Loomis got a 1st and the equivalent of a 3rd for a coach who wasn’t working for us anymore.

A coach whose market was much drier than anyone thought and who only even got a job because Denver reportedly struck out on others.

That’s the nasty taste that’s leaving in my mouth.

It’s like being with the one you love while you actively knew she tried to leave you a few times. How do you look at him/her ever the same?

LOL there have only been 2 HC trades in the last 20 yrs Herm Edwards and Bruce Arians and both were pretty awful SMH
If they were so “awful,” why did someone want to hire them?

The only people who think Loomis “caved” are Saints fans who created this unrealistic expectation of getting a Gruden deal for a coach who, unlike Gruden, wasn’t coaching.

Resigning. Moving on.
It was clear very early on that he wasn't retiring from coaching.

I've speculated that having to start the 2021 season making hurricane preparations and accommodations, including uprooting the team for several weeks and playing a "home" game in Jacksonville, suffering a rash of injuries, dealing with Covid, the Miami game fiasco - I think he decided his time in New Orleans had run its course and that he also needed a break from NFL coaching for a time. Maybe he genuinely wanted new challenges and a change of scenery? I'm not really sure why that would be so hard

Right. If that was all the reasons, then sure.

Question: does wanting to leave for the Cowboys or the colts two different attempts while still under contract apply to your scenario above?

The point was, I made ONE simple statement of how surprised I was that no social media was mentioning how fast the transition was…And look what I created.

All because of one statement

Because he was not working for us is irrelevant, He was a valuable ASSET and should have been treated as one. And to part with that asset we should have gotten as much value as possible. We could have gotten more. He Caved
