Would you be okay with the Saints giving up pick 29 and future assets for Jeffrey Simmons? (1 Viewer)

I have heard a lot of discussions on that lately, not here but on social media. I also hear that Simmons is deleting anything team-related from his social media. Lol

The notion is that Philly might pull it off, though.

Their safety Kevin Byard would be nice with this defense.

Yes, I would happily give up #29 with a smile on my face. He is 25yrs old, from LOUISIANA, had 7.5 sacks last year and 8.5 the year before. The only problem is that we would have to pay him next year, but Loomis could as we say "MAKE IT HAPPEN".

I'd love to see it. Better than anyone we could get at 29 and still young (26). I don't know how it would work for 2024 and beyond with the 20M+ per year contract we would have to give him but we for sure could fit his 2023 10.7M salary

So, let's give away #29, and get outbid next year when he hits FA. No thanks, draft me a DT I can have for 5 years on a manageable salary.

no way in hell!

He only has one year left on his contract, he is probably going to sign the biggest, or one of the biggest contracts for a Dlineman after this season.

He'd just be a rental, too expensive for a 1st.

In my hypothetical scenario we extend him, like the Eagles did when they traded for AJ Brown. They traded for him and immediately signed him to a 100M 4 year contract extension, but had cap hits of 5.6M (rookie salary + signing bonus) and 8.3M (first year of the extension) the first 2 years. Of course you don't trade a 1st if it's for a rental.

He’s from Macon MS.
While he would be immediately be our best DL, #29 needs to be a long term investment not someone you would be in a bidding war for after one season.

Love to have him, would need a huge contract and pick, depends on how we feel about the draft, I would be ok with an all DL draft ,by far our largest need no pass rush last year

It’s amazing how people think we are likely to find a significant contributor at #29 at the DT position. We’ve invested in how many recent bust defensively line in the 1st round? When was the last DT we drafted in the first two rounds that panned out? I’m definitely taking the vet or investing mid to late round picks on the position

He would be an Unrestricted Free Agent free agent next year.

Not just would the Saint "have to pay him" we would have to have to pay him more than anyone else was willing to pay.

Giving up the 29th pick would be foolish.

If he would sign with the saints next year, why not wait 1 year, sign him next year as a UFA instead of burning a 1st round pick to get him.
