N/S: Trufaunt not getting tagged? (1 Viewer)

If Asomugha becomes a FA, the Saints must be willing to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to get him. If Trufant hits the market, do the same.

He is my one, MUST HAVE free agent. He and Lance Briggs would turn around this defense that fast.

Also, I've discussed this before, the Seahawks have Kelly Jennings (1st round pick two years ago), Josh Wilson (2nd round pick last year) and Jordan Babineaux who had a very good year to replace Trufant. They have a lot of youth and talent where the loss of Trufant (even though he is their best DB) doesn't affect them like it would another team.

Exactly. I also speculated that the Seahawks might be inclined to not tag Trufant because of the number of young corners they have on their roster. The Seahawks have invested some high picks into these guys and will not look to break the bank on Trufant. I read an article recently that suggested that Seahawks thought that a good deal for Trufant would be one that would mirror the deal signed by Ken Lucas a few years ago. I thought that was lowballing. I think a good deal for Trufant would be a 7 year deal averaging about $7.5 million per season.

I also think we should pursue Lance Briggs. Trufant and Briggs would be major. Given that there have been reports that we might look to sign one or two impact free agents, I think that these two would make the most sense. Of course, other teams will think the same thing and so we must hit the ground running. The only way I would not make Trufant a priority at CB is if Nnamdi Asomugha is not tagged (which is highly unlikely).

Reggie Torbor might be another LB to look at. I think you can sign two. I would play Briggs at MLB, where I think he might be better and Torbor at WLB. I think a LB corps of Fujita, Briggs, and Torbor would be very solid. Go into the draft and try to get Ellis or Dorsey in the first, take the best CB in the second and I think our defense would be much improved.

I don't think we should go after Briggs, if we could get Trufant and Corey Willams I wouldn't mind going into the draft and getting (Rivers or Phillips) and Lofton, and Okam too. But it is not very likley.

Trufant will re up with the hawks..he has way to many ties with seattle...they will tag brown knowing that Trufant will resign no worries...

This is what I think will happen. Trufant will probably appreciate the fact that Seattle respects him enough to let him test the market. In the end, he'll most likely take less to stay with them.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Trufant himself said that he wouldn't give them a "hometown discount". Also, the Seahawks have little cap room to do moves this year, and a deal Tru wants will likely eat their entire cap. They also have young CB's that they have groomed for the future.

If the Saints get Truufant should they then think about moving up in the draft to grab one of the two top end DTs.

From nfl.com

Seattle could wind up tagging cornerback Marcus Trufant, CB tag is $9.465 million, if it can't sign him to an extension. Trufant is from Washington and the Seahawks suspect that the cornerback is unwilling to leave. But those who know Trufant insist he is -- all part of the chess match leading up to and into free agency.

There is no way they let him go. It doesn't make sense. This is Holmgren's last year coaching.

Trufant or Samuels I really don't care, but after them it's a big step down. I'd love for Trufant to be an UFA just to bring the price down for the other guy.

Maybe they can't afford to tag him. His franchise price could be near 10 million base salary. I know the top 3 are probably Nate Clemens, Nick Harper, and Dre Bly, who else is getting series bank as a CB right now?

you guys are talking like the Saints traded for him or something....like he's already on the team....were getting our hopes up to soon.

Tell me about it. If I were the Saints I would be calling Trufant's agent at midnight on the first when the free agency period starts.

Agree - I would love for the Saints to sign Trufant if he should become a FA.

Trufant and Corey Willams would be dream FA signings this year

****X2****

You got that right.. he's (Trufant) definetly on the must-have list.. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see Trufant become a Saint within minutes of the start of f/a, ok, well maybe within the first hour.. The concern becomes blatant with the injury to MM, the uncertainty of ma'main man Usama Young, the inconsistency of J. Craft, the age of Freddy T. and the popup-toast ability of mr. cover-2 (no names even need to be mentioned here, ya'll know of whom I speak).. So definetly, first things first, GET TRUFANT SIGNED!!.. that needs to be the A-1 off-season move, from there it's all about the draft as far as i'm concerned.. Briggs would be a nice addition to the LB corp, but I think Bensons' history has shown when the Saints go after f/a's that it's a top tier guy (maybe) and then a bunch of leftovers, and that's my concern, they get Trufant and then forget about everyone else.. as much as i'd personally love to see a few top guys get signed, I just don't think it's gonna happen........BUT, Trufant NEEDS to be the top guy this year........... period!.. just my .02

NWSaint.

John Clayton reported the other day that Trufant has talked to 3 teams...Saints, Cowboys, and Texans
