Romney to Drop Out of Race (1 Viewer)

He didn't make his millions by being a dummy.....

It'll be interesting to see what this does to the Huckabee campaign.

Your topic title is misleading. Nowhere you linked incontrovertibly indicates he will drop out of the race. He is merely suspending the campaign.

Well then they should use laymen's terms for dummies like me. Instead of titling the article "Romney to suspend campaign," how about "Romney drops out"? FWIW, the article keeps updating itself as I speak, so maybe the title will change also.

Suspending a campaign has a different meaning depending on the party.

On the Republican side, decisions on how to allocate delegates is left to the state parties.

He is out, he just retains some say as to his delegates this way. If he "dropped out" as opposed to merely "suspending his candidacy", he would lose those delegates and any influence he might have through them.

The Republican race is effectively decided. This makes the Obama/Clinton showdown in the Democratic Party all the more important for them to resolve quickly. The longer one party is unified behind one candidate, the more momentum they will have. That doesn't guarantee anything, of course, but it is a factor and it has its power.

TPS breaks into his version of "Oh, Happy Day!" :hihi:

Nightmare scenario of choosing between Hillary and Romney averted. Whew!

It's gonna be fun seeing all of these people's hearts broken he's speaking to because apparently they don't know he's suspending/ending his campaign.

which would have requried Bloomberg to the rescue :17:

I vote: McCain over Hillary; Obama over McCain (maybe) and still looking at who else gets in over the summatime.

Hopefully, a Libertarian candidate comes to light. I am sick of the two party system currently in place. Maybe Ron Paul might wake up and smell the roses and dedecate his money to an independant platform (as he has no shot as a Republican).
