I know that AWD is full time and 4X4 is switch back and forth .. but it seems like AWD is less desirable than a 4X4... why is that?? Can one of the car guys here inform me ... Thanks

AWD is for road driving for the most part, thats why its on cars instead of trucks mainly

I just cant understand why AWD is not listed as All Time 4X4 ... is there a difference?? The car salesmen tell me that its either full time or switchable .... if thats the case then why is 4X4 more desireable then AWD....???? I just cant see the reason.....

Most AWD systems are glorified front wheel drive cars with a tiny drive shaft giving some power to the rear wheels. All 4WD vehicles are set up like rear wheel drive vehicles with at least 50% of the power going to the rear wheels under normal driving. Subaru and Audi have superior AWD systems. All the rest are pretty week.
