so for my history 101 class we have a major paper due tomorrow. we were given partners to work with and were suppose to each write a paper and take bits and pieces from each and form one paper that is a combination of the two. i have been emailing my partner non stop and have not got a single response from him. i am guessing he is just assuming i will write the paper and we will just use my version. should i let him take any credit for this paper or just flat out tell my professor that he did not put in a single minute of time into this paper?

Your teacher probably wont want to hear it. They will probably ask you why didnt you say somthing earlier. Write a good paper and rat him out. Good luck.

I really dont want to rat him out but we have 5 papers like this and if he thinks he is just going to sit back and not do a thing for every paper he is horribly mistaken

Prepare yoru portion of the paper, and let the professor know you did not receive any other input or that you received it too late to incorporate it in his paper.

Don't worry about ratting him out. He is only going to pull down your grade if you do not stand up for yourself. Do your best and claim responsibility for your work. Let him explain why he failed to provide his input in a timely manner. Its your grade, why should be ride on yourshirttails when he has done nothing.

Just do it all yourself. It was a stupid idea to begin with, how good is a paper going to be when it's a circle-in-a-square-hole synthesis of two different papers? Do it yourself and be happy that he isn't being pushy about being included. You'll get a better grade for your efforts. The only thing I would have potentially had him do is read over it with fresh eyes for grammar errors and content suggestions.

With most professors that won't fly. They were supose to contact each other and share info. If that didnt happen and the other guy didnt respond, then the professor will question why he didnt come forward with this earlier.

I have ran into situations like this before. Just do the work and tell professor that you no longer want to work with this guy.

If you cant get your partner that was assigned to do this assignment, then dont bother defendng him or thinking he deserves any speical treatment. dude, you did your fair share, do not worry about bailing his butt out if he did not carry his own weight. I must say it sounds a bit unusual that you were given a partner to do this assignment. I am a history major myself and at not point did some professor here ever give me a partner to help with a major paper. I mean my *** was on the line if I had to do a paper, big ones included, that someone else was needed to help me out on it.

I know LSU is a bit different place then USA, but what I am hearing is a bit unusual. this is something new to me. Reb Saint went to Ole Miss and God only knows he has never told me they allowed him to use a partner in a major history paper. Maybe in graduate school they did but not where I go too. USA is a different animal.

Can I ask what assignment you had to do, lsu

I agree with this. Do it all and turn it in, then ask your professor for a different partner and tell him/her why you need another partner.

Exactly why don't assign group projects which translate into idiocy and problems of this ilk.

Do the project yourself, and screw everyone else.

Yeah really Reb. it does not make any good sense. the class he is taking is a class for freshman, when I was a freshman man I was thrown to the wolves so bad it still hurts. Here at South they never get out group projects. Never ever have I seen it happen and I know a few people in the graduate program their too.

Question Reb, I know you went to Mississippi but did you have to deal with this crap while you where their? UM is a different place then South, but I want your imput on this since well you were a student once and having to do assignments. this does not make any good sense at all

Bingo. Who cares what the other guy makes and if he "rides your coattails" Worry about your grade and to hell with everyone else. Considering the expected intelligence level of most of your 101 classmates, trust me, doing it all yourself was in your best interests anyways.

Now that was a good one, Reb. It takes a bit of humor to lighten the mood sometimes.

good call my good man

maybe he dropped the class or is planning on doin so and isnt worried about the grade b/c hes gonna get a w.

What is the point of assigning work like that anyway?
When I was sent to the NCO academy I had to work on a paper (and speech based on that paper) with two other guys. They tried, they really did, but what those two wrote was useless. It took over a week to help those guys write something coherent and I had to do the work required to put it all together to make one paper. Big waste of time for everyone if you ask me.
