More public opinion polls. I like polls. I especially like public opinion polls. They force you to declare a firm stance and make for good reference markers for the future. I wish we had a "Do you support the Iraq invasion" poll from before the war so we look back on or a "Bush/Kerry 2004 Election" poll. So as we head into this election cycle I think we should have more polls, for future reference and all.

This is about the 2008 Democratic Primary. Not that I can stop anyone, but please refrain from voting in this poll if you couldn't see yourself voting for any of the options. This doesn't mean you have to self-identify as a Democrat, or that you even would vote for say Obama over McCain if those are your options, just that you might at least strongly consider voting for Obama (or Hillary or whoever).

2008 Democratic Primary
1) Barack Obama

2) Hillary Clinton

3) A left leaning third party - Just as it says. You want to vote "left" but don't like either Clinton or Obama and therefore will choose some left leaning third party such as the Green Party or Democratic Socialist Party.

Notice there is no "None of the above" option, because if you would choose "None of the above" your opinion is irrelevant for the purpose of this poll.

sorry, I couldn't help it. I'd just gotten back from lunch where I'd heard on the radio that she was running and this was the first deserving place I saw to share the good news.

Cynthia McKinney? :17: Greatest hair since Todd Lantos. :covri:

My vote in this poll comes with the caveats that:

a) I am not a Democrat;
b) I am assuming that no one else runs worth a vote (e.g. some radical)
c) I already voted for Nader, who is exploring another run, in 1996 (before
it was cool);
d) I have not decided to vote for Obama over McCain;
e) Assumption that I could vote in a Democratic Primary.

:help:

Sorry, I didn't put an option up there for "crazy" :covri:

Check out this mind-blowing nugget I found on her website:

Next Campaign Milestone
1 days, 3 hours since till the Maine caucuses begin on Feb 10th (DC Primary Feb. 12th)..

Already voted for Obama. I'll vote third party and turn in my Dem card if Clinton wins the nomination.

:yes:

Good party, terrible candidate.

Voted for Obama.
I saw him tonight in Baltimore and the crowd was huge. Met several republicans who were also voting for Obama. I don't put much stock in "promising the world" primary speeches that all the candidates offer.
That being said, the 2 things that sway me to Obama are the fact that he said that he will speak with other foreign leaders to try and work out differences before they get out of hand. A novel idea to the current administration. How you can deal with another foreign leader through soundbites and military action is beyond me. I'm not saying we should expect to deal with nutjobs who would rather slit our necks than talk with us but there are many that with diplomacy can be swayed.
Number 2 is that he had enough foresight to oppose the war from the very beginning. That shows me sound judgement. He does have it easier because he didn't have to vote but he also didn't have to say a word or could have pulled a Hillary and stated that "with the intel we had" blah blah. She lost my vote there.
He does promise a lot but also insists that he is not doing it alone. He stated that he doesn't want anyone to vote him in and then sit on the couch waiting for things to get better. That was refreshing as he**. To feel that you not only have stake in your future but also a vested interest and responsibility for it, is exactly what I am looking for.
The republicans have their candidates that say they are going to keep you safe and protect you from all the harm in the world and are not asking anything from you as a citizen. Sit back and let them lead and watch as they lead you over a cliff or into a war or a poorly thought out response to natural disasters or an economic crisis.

I would consider all three (Clinton, Obama, 3rd party left leaner), but I'm leaning towards Clinton, because of education (e.g. IDEA funding), immigration (e.g. amnesty) and economy/(green) jobs program, abortion (e.g. FOC Act, x gag rule, ECs) etc....

I voted Clinton as well, mainly because I'm a big fan of Bill and she is a lot like him, idealogically. I would welcome a return to the 90s-- a return to fiscal responsiblity (how did the Republicans come get tagged as the party of economic sanity? Look at the records of Bill and Dubya), a return to unprecedented economic prosperity and relative global peace. A return to a President with a keen intellect and an innate desire to do the job well. I will not be upset if Barack wins the nomination- I just don't think it's his time yet.

.

I am going to vote Democrat in the general election regardless of who it is. I just hope whoever gets the nomination is a winner in November.

I'm with Jim in the fact that I'm voting for either one of the candidates, after putting up with Republicans and their arrogance for the last 8 years I'm not about to vote for another one for 4 more years. I like Obama but I don't have a huge problem with Hillary and I don't think she's the antichrist like some that I know so it won't be hard for me to vote for her at all if she gets the nomination..
