I am going to attempt a balanced view here based on all I have read.
1. I think Reggie Bush and his family knowingly took money from a sports agent.
2. I think Bush is a smart guy and however they tried to disguise this "arrangement", he knew it was wrong and could impact his eligibilty at USC.
3. Beyond impacting his eligibility Reggie was selfishly putting his whole USC team at risk, and the program might still be at risk because of this.
4. USC had to know something or at a miniumum turn a blind eye to the arrangement. When your super star player's family ends up in a real nice place I believe someone in the program knew enough to investigate this.
5. The agent is a sleazeball.
6. The agent has a problem with his lawsuit. Since he knew what he was doing was wrong, he couldnt create the proper paperwork necessary to protect himself. Unless its spelled out in some contract, I would take the position the agent put himself at risk by giving gifts(read:bribes) without a firm contract.
7. The agent has problems in front a jury. He is sleazy and no one will feel sorry for him. A jury will look for a way to screw him.
8. Bush has some problems in front of a jury. Will they see him as an innocent athlete preyed upon by an unethical agent or a selfish superstar who put his team at risk and welshed on a deal? Or will they see it somewhere in between?
9. I am having a hard time thinking of doing something stupider than having your "bodyguard" bring a gun to a deposition. Is Bush trying to look more gangsta than Pacman? He gave the sleazeball agent a plausible reason to back out of a deposition he didnt want to give.
10. Reggie Bush has been a mixed bag with the Saints. He has brought instant excitement to the franchise and shown flashes of greatness. I wish he had worked out with the team last year and think he is doing damage to his image with all these distractions. Bush is one of the most marketable people in all of sports. He needs to perform on the field to keep that and watch himself off the field in the future. Oh yeah, and he needs to lose the bodyguards packing heat at depositions, or at least have them hide the heat better.
