Give the record back to Aaron

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Baseball home run king Barry Bonds tested positive for steroids in November 2001, just a month after hitting his record 73rd home run of the season, U.S. prosecutors said on Thursday.

The allegation came in a legal filing in his steroid perjury case that referred to Bonds' long-time trainer, Greg Anderson.

"At trial, the government's evidence will show that Bonds received steroids from Anderson in the period before the November 2001 positive drug test, and that evidence raises the inference that Anderson gave Bonds the steroids that caused him to test positive in November 2001," U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello wrote.

MLB has released the following statement:

This is a complete surprise to me. I would have never taken Barry Bonds as someone that has taken steroids.....

/sarcasm off :D

So if Barry is batting against Clemons, steroid vs steroid, HGH vs HGH, which records do we keep, which get thrown out?

Give the record back to Aaron

Only if you can promise me no one else in the league was cheating.

Baseball would be remotely interesting if they dropped the geekish obsession with personal statistics and focused on teams and organizations winning pennants.

Shouldnt take a failed test to know when a guy gains 30 lbs of muscle, hits 73 HRs after his previous high for a season was 49 that something is wrong. If gaining muscle was all it took Flex Wheeler would have had the record long ago. Same with Clemens, struggles with the Blue Jays, ponders retirement then returns and is suddenly back and his era is similar to his Cy Young days-when you are 37-40, all players are decreasing their ability like has always been throughout the history of baseball. I took a lot of flack saying this back in 2001, glad its finally out.

Oops.
SAN FRANCISCO -- A typo in court papers regarding Barry Bonds filed late Thursday by federal prosecutors touched off a brief tempest over the mistaken belief that he failed a drug test in November 2001, one month after breaking the home run record.

In fact, the government meant to reference a previously reported November 2000 failed drug test that was included in the indictment unsealed last year, U.S. attorney spokesman Josh Eaton said.

Let's see...

• 21st century diet and nutrition? - Check

• World class training facilities and training routines? - Check

• Better coaching knowledge than players had 40+ years ago? - Check

• Hitter-friendly parks? - Check

• Better quality bats and hitter-friendly balls? - Check

These players should be ashamed of themselves. They have so many advantages over players like Ruth, Aaron and Maris, and without the steroids, they'd probably still be chasing many of those records. Sad, just sad.

Struggles with the Blue Jays? 41-13 (21-7 & 20-6) and 2 Cy Young awards in 2 years is hardly what anyone would call "struggling."

Maybe you meant to reference his end in Boston were he went 40-39 over his last 4 years, and was presumed to be finished.
