Do you guys think that Mike Mckenzie would excel at the safety position. If he is slowed by his knee injury I would think that he would be able to play safety and be an upgrade over Bullocks. He may be a little small but should be able to gain a little wieght.
Anyway with Roman and Mike as our safeties I would fell much better about that position.
Tell me what you think.

Whats with all of these can (insert name) play safety?

1st Jason David, now MM.

Name me some CB's who have played CB their whole career and have successfully converted to safety.

maybe but no.

we need mike at corner. a safety is just that... a safety

mikes our best CB... if he was at safety (which would never happen) we would get lit up underneath all game long

I am worried about him recovering from his injury. There have been examples of CBs when slowed by age or injury converting to Safety and being successful. If he can still be as successful as he has in the past then by all means keep him at CB. If he loses a step then maybe the move should be considered if we can find someone to replace him.

Asante Samuel or Nnamdi for example and pair them with Usama Young with Harper and Mckinzie. I like that assuming we can land a big FA. Also I don't understand why you say we sould get lit up undereath. As you said a Safety is just that a safety and not responible for underneath zones that would seem to me to be a LB er resposibility. He may be a Run support liability because of his size.

I never said Jason David should be changed over. He is to small and should just simple be cut in my opinion. I understand Salary cap implications will probably keep him around but as far as I'm concerned he is the worst starter on the team except for maybe Mare and should be released.

I truely think he could transition very easily but unless we get one of the big FA and draft a CB high I doubt this will even be a thought.

I just don't get the logic.

If he knee is preventing from playing corner, he won't be very useful for us at safety.

Just wait for his knee to fully heal and put him back at corner. His knee will be fine over time.

I wasn't saying you were the one who made the suggestion on moving David to safety, but it has been discussed on here.

There isn't any CB who has played his whole career at CB, who has successfully converted to safety.

We don't need a CB at Safety we need a real Safety at Safety

I am not sure who but for you to make a blanket statment like that there isn't any cb who has made a successful conversion from CB to Safety. Im gonna go out on a limb and say you are wrong. I would be surprised if it hasn't happened numerous times. Do I have names off the top of my head no I don't. I don't know if its a good idea now but I would love to prolong Mckenzies carreer here if he doesn't completely recover from his surgery. If he can still play the way we are used to him playing then lets leave him at CB. If he can't I would like to try him there and see if he can improve our interception numbers. He has great instincts and should be able to play the piece of work imho.

Why would we move our best defensive back to position he's not familiar with for no reason?

The reason would only be if he doesn't recover fully from his knee injury. It is possible to play safety without 4.3 speed if you are instictive. Anyone remember a guy by the name of Sammy Knight. I think he ran a 4.7second forty and we haven't had anyone as capable as he was since he was allowed to get away.

Dwight Smith and Tavaris Jackson of the Bucs had successful transitions from CB to Safety. :) Mckenzie hits like a safety, great coverage skills. If he is a step slower due to his knee, I say give it a shot.
