Their is a funny time and unique destiny which exists in the South, imagery fills your mind of ghosts and blue and grey and battlefields from Chickamagua to the Vicksburg siege. but more crucial and more important is the state of Tennessee. this state is part legend and part rapid reinforcement. it is the light that never seems to go out in the region, the place where Athens and Nashville con-incite to make Titans who roar on the football field. and on the football field their is a rich tradition of excellence.

These names are Neyland, Majors, Fulmer, and Reggie white. the names of countless titles and countless honors bestowed unto them. this is a college that peers have no equal. it is the university of Tennessee and for over 150 years it has proven itself time and time again as the College of the South. Call it New South, old South, or Modern South, we are Dixie's children reborn in a few fashion.

and the anthem to all of this is Rocky top. Not glamorous or mute in its point either, its an anthem of Tennessee as a whole state and the rallying point to where excellence responds.

It is a power anthem mixed in tradition, not a rock song with hedonistic overtones.

No ,no this is an anthem of my ancestors, my forefathers, and my future children.

On of which I am proud to look upon and be proud of.
Kick arses and be proud indeed, thats what Tennessee is all about.
That and tradition too

No, I am doing this to honor the bet I made with Jim that his boys would beat my Auburn boys. the condition I said I would do would be too honor or sing Rocky Top as a salute or a condition of me losing the bet. I still am an Auburn man all the way, but I do like Tennessee because my mother's ancestors came from their and fought in the Army of Tennessee under General Hood so I have some emotional attachments to that state. Tennessee Vols are one of the few other SEC teams that really has my respect and their fans are good people too. Auburn/Tennessee games are classic games always steve.

Thats awesome!! Did you write that ?

wrote every word of it, hammer. these are my words and I mean them. I have a lot of emotional attachment to Tennessee and for that reason I like it in many ways. As I told Steve, my great-grandfather fought in the army of Tennessee under Hood, so I have a lot of heritage in that area of the country so thats a bonus too as well

Surely, you have respect for LSU too saintman?
After this season, they DESERVE respect. :9:

Yes LSU does count, Saint. I think LSU fans can be a bit combative when it comes to Auburn on occasion and really their is a lot of tension when we play. But its a good rivalry and the fans on both sides get their money's worth. a person would be a fool to not like LSU's contributions to the SEC now as well as its past

That's some great rhetoric, but I think we should have a little more ambition than that. Maybe once Tennessee starts graduating more than half of its football players can we start calling it the College of the South. ;)

Okay, fine. It can be the College of the South. But we all know that Vanderbilt is the University of the South.

(actually Sewanee is, but they only have 1200 students, how can that be a university??)
