I wanted Dan Morgan or Jonathan Vilma because they were younger, it made no sense to me for us to sign an old player like him because he would be in the same position in probably one year. Either trade for Vilma are sign Dan Morgan because honestly unless we sign Briggs and move him to the middle there is no other middle linebackers that impresses me in free agency as well as the draft.

Zach Thomas would have left us in a year or two if he did sign with us. Right now, our main focus should be on trading for Jonathan Vilma. Dan Morgan would be okay, but Vilma is young talent.

Dan Morgan hasn't played but 4 games in the last two seasons.

I understand you wanting to circle the wagons and keep your pride, but theres noway you would of rather had Morgan before Thomas was signed.

And if there are no MLBs in this draft that impress you I'd like to know what exaclty impresses you.

Agreed

I think Thomas, if healthy, would have been solid for us for 2-3 years until a drafted MLB could've learned the ropes. You can't overestimate the value of a (coach) on the field like Thomas. That being said, looking at what's available, IF Vilma is healthy he is a no brainer. I would push for a 2009 draft pick, maybe a 4th or 3rd with the option of bumping to a 2nd or 3rd based on playing. There are NO other MLB's on the market that would come close and rookies for the most part will take some time. I do think they still need to draft a LB or 2 and still go after a new WLB in free agency also. The only one I would stick with currently is SLB Fujita.

Seriously, I'm probably the only person that wanted Dan Morgan more than Zach Thomas only because of his age. I don't like when the Saints sign players that is on the down side of his career. I don't mean that individual is getting horrible in play, I mean jsut getting up in age. When players get up in age they tend to get injured a lot, so yes, I wanted Dan Morgan and you guys can crucify me for that.

Dan Morgan is 30 and has been injured his entire career. I fail to see how his age is a plus over Thomas.

But whatever, everyones due an opinion.

It amazes me how this forum can just jump on the bandwagon and even post him dancing the soulja boy and if i should name my son zach

to completely trashing him

Amen, I'm surprised folks here want Morgan:

Panthers release injury-prone linebacker Morgan, guard Wahle
Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers finally ran out of patience with injury-prone linebacker Dan Morgan.

The Panthers released their former first-round pick Monday after seven seasons. He was dominant when he played, but was on the field for only 59 out of a possible 112 games.

The Panthers also released veteran Mike Wahle, who started 16 games at left guard last season. The moves were the first of what are expected to be many after consecutive non-winning seasons.

Morgan was the No. 11 overall pick by Carolina in the first-round of the 2001 NFL Draft, and wowed coaches and fans with a combination of hard hits and speed. Morgan had 25 tackles in Carolina's loss to New England in the Super Bowl four years ago, and his 452 tackles rank third in team history.

Morgan just couldn't stay healthy. He never played all 16 games in a season due to numerous injuries, including at least five concussions."

And I don't know about Vilma yet. He's had injury problems, but are they serious or does he have an attitude problem with the coach about being changed to a 3-4?

OK, I know he's actually injured, but you see my point.

And he won't be free like Morgan, we'll have to give a draft pick to get Vilma.

A gamble? Sure. Worth the gamble? I don't know, but I'll think on it. Lets talk to him.

Call me a fool but I'm sure Morgan still have some game left in him regardless of what his injury situation has been.

Believe me, if Morgan is healthy (or should I say) can pass a physical and the contract is right for the situation, then I'm all for giving him a shot. He is an elite talent when he is on the field and playing at or near 100% which isn't very often. That being said, I don't think you could sign him and COUNT on him to play 16 games.

Certainly because his recent history have shown that but the same goes with Johnthan Vilma. I just realized both of the linebackers are from the U.

His entire history, shows that, not recent. Morgan is so frustrating as a player because your chasing something that isn't there. Hes a good LB, but he can never play a full season and has never played a full season.

Vilma has never missed a game until he missed 7 last year after opting to have surgery.

It is still concerned an injury regardless of when it happen Vilma and Morgan are prone to have injuries.

so anybody who has ever been injured is automatically injury prone?

I am gonna be honest with everybody here. I wanted Zack Thomas just so we could say that we are being aggressive signing somebody that could maybe make a difference. I wonder how many other people on the other teams forums are saying the same things about their team as we are. It is very obvious to the whole league that we have to do something to our defense, whether it be on the line, lb'ers, corners, wherever. If we don't do anything, this team will be in big trouble next year. Just my personal opinion.
