I've seen a lot of predictions of the Saints getting Keith Rivers...I just wanted to say that would be huge for your defense.. I don't know how the Saints use their WLB..but he's been like a more talented Derrick Brooks for USC the last 3 seasons....and the second most dominating force on the defense behind Sedrick Ellis...

Too bad Ellis has likely moved into the top 5 as I was hoping you guys would be in position to land him...Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing a USC-NO connection..

I wouldn't mind seeing a USC-NO connection..

Isn't Reggie Bush a USC-NO connection?

I would love to see us get Ellis at 10, but you are right about him probally not being there.
Rivers is as likely as anything but we never know who we will get until draft day.

A lot people think Rivers isn't a good pick at 10, but if he is as good as you say he is they may just be wrong.

Yeah im not much of a usc fan actually i hate them but i'll give yall this the players yall prdocuce are freaking amazing but hey man this is pro football not college so your a saints fan who lives in CAL? But back on topic i would love to land either of them can you tell me about Rey Mualuga please

That's just one player....I mean like a trend starting...

Rivers is just always around the ball.....and if he's in a position to make a play, INT, fumble, recovery, the play is getting made....It's rare that he misses a tackle..

Plus his size...haha...You have to see these guys up close to understand Rivers and Rey are huge....he's gotta be pushing 240..and no shorter than 6'4...

He's just a very instinctive player on the field...and I would expect him to start from day 1..

The bigger need is CB, MLB and DT.
1. CB Talib
2. MLB Lofton/ DT Sims/MLB Mayo
3. DT Laws/DT Moore/MLB Leman/WR Kansas
4. DT Okam/OLB Butler/TE Davis

I'm more of a Bucs fan..but I follow all the guys in the league that I know..so with Reggie going to the Saints I have taken a liking to your team...

as far as Rey...scary individual...LB's aren't supposed to be that large..this guy is 6'3 245-255 easy...and just has no concern for anyone's health (he'll blow up his own team in practice)....he has a tendency to overrun plays, leaving the middle of the field vulnerable..but his speed to close on the ball is outstanding....He's a better blitzer than Rivers..but can get lost in coverage..

A few plays where the DC had him one on one against a WR left him on the short end, as he doesn't have the pure speed of a DJ Williams....

There isn't anyone I'd compare him to, because, I've just never seen anyone like him...probably the most intimidating human being I've been around..

He should go top 10, so hopefully you'll not be in a position to draft him...You might look at Brian Cushing though...He won't be as highly rated, but might prove to be the best LB from USC, ever.

Aquib isn't worth #10 at all...IN fact Tracy Porter from Indiana is better, fits with the Saints defense, and can be had in round 2.

Maybe we should trade up in the draft next year and get Rey Mualuga if he's as good as you say he is.

the 3 LB's over the past 3 seasons have been Cushing, Rivers, and Rey....Of the 3, Rey will grade out the highest...and be drafted the highest..no doubt in my mind...

but Rivers and Cushing will have a more immediate impact for their teams...and as I said, Brian Cushing will in my mind, be regarded as the best NFL LB to come out of USC...He can play all three positions and put his hand on the ground and rush the passer...

so your a saints fan who lives in CAL?

Yeah, I'm a Saints fan living in California. What so awkward about it?

Anyways, I know many people think Keith Rivers is overrated and some are even calling him a likely bust. I don't like us taking him at 10, but I don't see why you all think he sucks. He is 6-2, 240. He is fast, athletic and strong. How is he overrated?

I've only seen a few USC games the last couple of years and these are my observations of their 3 starting linebackers...

Keith Rivers...fluid athlete and most consistent of the 3

Rey Maualuga...nasty, reckless headhunter but plays inconsistent

Brian Cushing...best playmaker of the 3 and goes all-out on every play but is a bit injury-prone

All 3 are 1st round talent.

That's about as accurate a summation as you'll find....you want the highlight reel plays, Rey..you want the never misses a play, Keith....you want the combination of the two...Cushing.
