in the first DL group today. Could he possibly stand up and play OLB in a 4-3 defense? I don't really know enough about him to say if he is capable or not. Has anyone on the board seen him play extensively to know if he has this kind of ability?

Seen every game he has played in. He dropped back some and covered at Auburn, he has the skills to do it, but he prefers to rush the passer, and has said so on many occasions.

Perfect pass rushing OLB in a 3-4 with that speed.

I said in an earlier thread before this was posted....I love this guy. Next to Gholston I believe he is the best defender in the draft, and now he has no chance of sliding to our 2nd round pick.

While DE conversions to a 3-4 OLB are pretty common, conversions to a 4-3 OLB are pretty rare. The NYGiants did it with Kiwanuaka but it's not typical. I wouldn't "predict" something like that, no.

Groves is overrated anyways in my opinion.

True they are rare. I know he can get after the QB but beyond that I had no idea of his athletic ability as far as reading plays, cover skills, etc. which are all needed in a 4-3 LB.

Also, I saw a report on rotoworld that Gholston ran a 4.64 and Chris Long posted a 4.71 at 272lbs..... It seems more and more likely as the combine goes on that Long is going to be the number one unless it is traded.

I'm thinking there might be something to those "Cowboys to #1 overall for McFadden" rumors now that McFadden ran that blistering 40 time. Jones is going to feel justified in pulling off a splash like that.

Reggie Torbor and Marcus Washington were both DE's at Auburn, and have done pretty well for themselves as OLB's in the pros.

If the rumored trade is true with 3 picks (including the 2 firsts) and Marion Barber, I can't see Parcells passing on that. I can't see how the trigger hasn't been pulled already. I think the deal gets done although he may be trying to make the call to Atlanta figuring that Miami may take McFadden, but I hear Brown is recoivering fine, and Parcells will probably opt for one of those good quality back that falls. And the Rams have Stephen Jackson and a few other more pressing needs.

I can see Long or Gholston going 1, and Jerry Jones trying to still get McFadden, but by giving less to Atlanta and thus a little less money to McFadden.

I really do think Jerry goes for it and makes a strong play for McFadden. Also I think more talks would be rumored but we didn't know what order 3-4-5 were until like 3 days ago. That probably had some trade talks hung up.

Even better news, Shawn Crable ran a 4.56 and is a true outside linebacker that can put his hands down and rush the passer.

Auburn DE/OLB Quentin Groves posted the fastest forty time among the first DL group Monday, clocking in at 4.50.

It's unofficial, but impressive for the 6'3/254-pounder. Other times include USC DT Sedrick Ellis (5.21), Michigan OLB Shawn Crable (4.56), and Virginia Tech DE/OLB Chris Ellis (4.75). Vernon Gholston is in the second group.

Wow that is good news I must have completely glanced over that. As long as the Saints take a LB in the second round they are going to get a good one there are just to many on the board not to get one.

Really I watched him on several occasions the year before last and he was absolutely dominating, honeslty he reminded me of Freeney.

Is Groves still injured? He came to the Senior Bowl for Day 1 and then went home. He ran at the combine, but other than that, he apparently isn't working out.

If he hadn't dislocated three toes in the Florida game, he would be the unquestioned top ranked DE in the draft. He does hold the record for sacks at Auburn. The only negative I saw in him is that he tries too hard at times. Like someone else mentioned, he reminds me of Freeney. He had the highest motor of anyone on the team.
