'The asking price for Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel is somewhere between $10 and $11 million per season. The Saints are currently the leader to land Samuel, although that could change. Samuel's price got this high because Atlanta's disgruntled DeAngelo Hall is asking for $10 million.'

Hmmmm.....I would have rathered a guy that's used to man to man...and cheaper...but with FA looking as slim as it is I would be more disappointed getting no one than getting him for that price.

We have the money, and we don't get any wins for not using it, so why the heck not? Pay Colston, Evans, all the young guys, and there will still be a ton left over.

This was posted early. As was pointd out, FA hasn't started and theres noway to know who is the leader for who. This is just speculation on the authors part.

i see this on alot of threads, why is it 100 % assumed we will play man to man next year? It was a failure and we seemed to have only one man to man db last year, so why shouldn't we be hoping that we switch away from man to man.

I think with the Saints being (speculated) 39-32mill under the cap, we probably the front runners for any big name free agent, but your also right Jackavelli...who says we stay with a man vs man base defense? specially if we get samuel, he and jason david both cover 2 corners...but thats just me putting a little extra on it.

There's been no mention of a switch. Wouldn't a change of defensive shemes be announced or something? The LBs and DL schemes have to change with it. You can't just do one and not the others. I would imagine that's why its assumed. Why assume otherwise. Its not like last year was our first in man to man.

Maybe we'll be in a 3-4 base next year....?

If a change were to occur, Kelly come become a player of interest. I just don't see us changing schemes, but who knows, the market of available talent may dictate a change.

what would be the point of announcing they would change their coverages? i wouldnt say anything and just do it when the regular season starts to throw off the teams they play..... atleast for a couple games they will be off guard.

Teams announce it every year. I don't know why.

I think he was a scheme guy. I would not pay him that kind of money. I'd rather DeAngelo but he is a big mouth but a better shut down corner than Asante.

That means we have to have the safeties to play the cover 2. I wouldn't mind Samuels though.

BINGO! Is this a poll or something? Because, if Asante Samuel has heard of any bids, that is tampering. I put as much faith in this as I would a PFW whispers article.

why would they announce a defensive switch in feb?? especially to fans...

i'm only saying we do not have man db's so it would make sense not to continue to play it. I'm not saying it will happen, just everytime someone talks about a free agent cb, someone says he can't play man. yes, with the Saints record over the last 40 years we will probably continue to play man and not have the personnel, I guess I was just hoping the Saints will adjust.
