I am, first and foremost, a big time pro wrestling fan and observer, but the thing I want to ask you is based on a rumor or urban legend that has been floating around since Wrestlemania III in Detriot. the rumor goes as follows: Before the match Andre the Giant gave an so-so answer to Vince McMahon and hulk hogan about losing the match, the main event of that historic indoor show. Problem was Hulk Hogan didnt know what the hell would happen when the match started.

He did know what Andre would do if he decided to say the hell with it and want the title. Many fans were unaware of this mind you, they thought Hogan would win and Andre would lose, Hogan was scared as hell in the opening matches because he did not know who would win or lose. He knew what Andre may be thinking and knew he may change his mind.

so, according to this source of mine no one not even Vince McMahon knew what would happen. It was totally unscripted except to the end. No one knew.

Is that rumor true? Did Andre really say he was going to lose or agree to lose or maybe change his mind at the last second. He was a big time pro and had been on top for many many years since the late 60's. He had a lot of clout and could do these things if he so wanted too.

There is already discussion of this on the wrestling board.

Thats why Its an urban legend, most marks don't realize this. They thought that Hogan would win, but all matches in wrestling are fixed, but this one according to my source was not. Hogan did not know whether Andre was going to let him beat him, at all. thats why he was scared because Andre really did not give him or McMahon a definite answer. he said maybe he would or he would see or think about it. In essence he kept them guessing until the end. Unlike Bret Hart who was screwed at the end, no one knew what would happen. that almost happened in Wrestlemania III. Andre died 6 years later but he was a proud man, he may have changed his mind at the last second

My ******* of a step dad was related to Andre the Giant. Like 2nd or 3rd cousin. They had pictures of him from a family reunion.

I have also heard that they were not 100% sure if Andre was going to allow Hogan to win the match.

Based on the thread title, I thought the content of your post would be a little more provocative than a question about Andre the Giant.

Anyway, according to Hogan it was Andre's decision and it was spur of the moment. Andre was a shell of his former self, athletically speaking, and realized his career was at a dead end.

exactly bop, they did not know at all. Because he did not give the WWF people a definite answer to whether he would lose. So in essence Hogan and Andre was wrestling unscripted and no one knew who would win. I never had heard that until like a few months ago and was stunned when I heard it

For some reason this really made me laugh. :hihi:

hmmm.. according to an interview with Hogan on WFAN last week, the outcome was never in doubt, only the match itself was unscripted. i guess you can believe the more provocative version tho'.

hogan , vince mcmahon, and bobby hennan(undre's handler/manager) all said they didn't know what undre was gonna do...vince wanted hogan to win but at the time undre couldn't stand hogan so when they kept asking undre what's gonna happen he wouldn't say anything, so nobody knew what was gonna happen, until the very end when undre told hogan to bodyslam him..
