I live in the Dallas area. Zach Thomas interviewed yesterday one of the local radio stations. Here are a couple of his comments:

1. He didn't sign with the Patriots because he played them twice a year and he hates the organization. He was glad the Giants beat them in the Super Bowl.

2. He has been in a rebuilding situation with the Dolphins for 5 years. He's close to the end of his career and he felt the Cowboys gave him the best chance to win a Super Bowl. He felt the Cowboys defense was pretty good and just wants to come in and help them improve.

He didn't mention the Saints in the interview but his comment about rebuilding caught my attention. I'm thinking he felt the Saints are trying to rebuild the defense and at this point in his career he didn't want to be a part of that.

I think that's a pretty fair assessment. Atleast, I hope we're rebuilding our defense.

I think you're reading too much into that. We're not a team in rebuilding mode. If we were, he wouldn't have visited the Saints.

I'm not saying the team as a whole is rebuilding, but we are trying to improve the defense. It's very possible we will have 5 or 6 new starters on defense. That's pretty signigicant. The Cowboys should have their same starters so their defense is more established.

Why not visit the Saints?....after all, he visited a team he hates! And the Saints are indeed in a rebuilding mode on defense...they could easily upgrade at least 6 positions...2DTs, 2 LBs, a FS, and at least 1 CB. I would consider that at least a partial rebuilding.

It's obvious that Zach was referring to teams that have virtually no shot at getting to the Superbowl...ala "rebuilding." The Miami Dolphins are a team that is rebuilding. The Atlanta Falcons are a team that is rebuilding. The Saints are not "rebuilding." I expect to see them add 3-4 new starters on defense along with some additions for depth. We are not completely overhauling the whole defensive unit, and if you're expecting us to add 6 new starters, I think you'll be let down.

It's obvious that Zach had every intentions of signing with the Cowboys from day one, and visiting NE and us was just lip service to hopefully drive his price up.

Otherwise, why visit NE, a team he hates and would have never signed with?

I can't find the link now, but the article I'm thinking of confirmed that his whole family are cowboy's fans. IMHO his signing with them was a foregone conclusion.

That's what it sounds like...

But if he was talking about not joining a rebuilding D...he could of been a BIG addition to the revamping of it. Even become the leader of it...but maybe he just wanted to be home.

Best of luck to you Zach. But don't be sad when the Cowboys are 1-and-done in the playoffs like they have been for years.

Try winning one playoff game first.

I just love it.....a team that has been one and done the last two season in the playoffs and has gotten worse as the season has gone gives him a better chance to win a Super Bowl.....Whatever floats his boat :)
