Here is a link to a Patriots message board talking about Gay. Man,, this is the kind of stuff the Colts message board was talking about when we picked up David and everybody knows how that turned out.

They seem to assume that the saints are using Gay as a top two corner.......the saints seem to think they got a top notch third or slot corner. Totally different scneario. We just dramatically improved our "jason craft" position.

Jesus, who cares what they say. They have some positive and negative comments, but really so what.

The fact of the matter is, he was good enough to be a nickel corner on some super bowl teams. If he is good enough for that, surely he is good enough to be our nickel.

If I remember correctly Randall Gay never did start at LSU. I saw where someone posted on the Pats board that Chevis Jackson would be a better CB. I tend to agree. Jackson may not have the top notch speed but... In my opinion is was a true shutdown corner at LSU. He always plays his man from the line of scrimmage and always looks back to make a play on the ball. Chevis Jackson is going to make some NFL team very happy.

Well, I just talked to a Pats fan on another forum and he said this:

You will find divided opinion in Patriot Nation on Gay. Personally I think he is good enough to be a full time starter and would benefit from doing so.

He started in the Super Bowl against the Eagles and did a decent job, he certainly is not a top flight CB but very serviceable. One big advantage is his age to experience ratio he is still pretty young.

The thing that dragged him down was two seasons ago he had a pretty bad injury but has bounced back really well.

I should think he will a starter on your team and you will be happy with him. Personally I am sorry to see him go.

Sounds OK to me, especially if he isn't asked to step in and be a difference maker.

Any time some body leave the ship he goes with a "good ridance" however looking at how the Pat's defence is being raided and offences dismantled and the age/injuries of other players I don't think they will be in the playoff next year. They now have alot of work to do. Even if that is an over statement, they are not a shoe in for the playoffs and forget 18-1

Some of the comments sound like that, but over all I'd say it sounds like the Pats fans know they are losing a good player. Most of the critical posts are more along the lines of "the Saints paid too much for Gay" instead of "Gay is no good." Some of the posters are quite concerned about how BB is going to fill the many needs in NE's secondary that have opened up with the departures of Samuel and Gay. I don't remember any Indy fans who were bothered by David's leaving.

One pats fan on that thread does point out something I very much agree with: Chevis Jackson will probably be a better pro than Gay and he'll be available in the 3rd round, possibly. Hmm...

Uh, at the price we signed him at, we certainly are looking at him as a top 2 CB. You don't pay nickel backs that kind of $$$.

Someone posted a link to the loomis interview from this a.m. He says directly that they consider Gay to be a top notch slot coverage guy, and that is how they intend to use him. And today the way teams love to spread defenses your third corner is considered a starter.

It's not up to me to argue the point, I just listened to the GM's evaluation of the player and am trying to help people on the forum understand what the team is thinking.

So everyone can go along thinking gay is the interim #1 or even the full time #2 corner if they really want to, and then they can be surprised when he goes into the season basically a starter but at the "slot corner" (term Loomis seemed to like) spot. Seems like a good spot for Randall Gay, and if he excells at it, 4.5 is fine with me!
