Should the opportunity present itself on draft day, if Dorsey and Ellis are gone, and maybe even if not the Saints should trade out of the number 10 pick. Everyone seems to be agreed that we are gonna need more than one player to make our defense better and this could be a good place to pick up 2 guys instead of one. Ive suggested before we should trade back to a team like AZ that may want to move up to 10 to take a guy like jenkins or mckelvin for the 16th and a guy like dansby. Even trading back to Dallas for the 22 and 28 picks would leave us to take the remaining corner and the best linebacker, dt, tight end.

Really the back half of the first round seems to be pretty level. At ten we are too far back to get the top talent in the draft, short of someone dropping to us, and too high to take most of the guys that will fill a need. Trade back get an extra player or pick and still possibly get DRC or Rivers, maybe mckelvin or any number of other players we are considering at ten. If someone will be willing to move up I think we should pull the trigger.

Agree/ Disagree? why?

Loomis is known for moving around on draft day, so I wouldn't be surprised if they moved back if given the opportunity. If the target is a CB, then I hope we can move back. The top 4-5 CBs are close in talent level, so moving back instead of reaching at 10 would be a good move. The question is who and why would they want to trade up. The only real scenerio I see for someone wanting to move up is for a RB like McFadden or Menddenhaul or one of the QBs.

Ellis & Dorsey

Only if Ellis & Dorsey is off the board.

I would agree, but only if Dorsey and Ellis are both gone before pick #8. The cost of moving up 2 spots isn't that much. If one is still there at #8, trade 1st round picks with Baltimore and throw in the 3rd round pick and they thrown in their 4th and 5th round picks. According to the trade value charts, that is about an even trade.

Here's the 1st round draft order...

1 Miami Dolphins
2 St. Louis Rams
3 Atlanta Falcons
4 Oakland Raiders
5 Kansas City Chiefs
6 New York Jets
7 New England Patriots (from 49ers)
8 Baltimore Ravens
9 Cincinnati Bengals
10 New Orleans Saints
11 Buffalo Bills
12 Denver Broncos
13 Carolina Panthers
14 Chicago Bears
15 Detroit Lions
16 Arizona Cardinals
17 Minnesota Vikings
18 Houston Texans
19 Philadelphia Eagles
20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
21 Washington Redskins
22 Dallas Cowboys (from Browns)
23 Pittsburgh Steelers
24 Tennessee Titans
25 Seattle Seahawks
26 Jacksonville Jaguars
27 San Diego Chargers
28 Dallas Cowboys
29 San Francisco 49ers (from Ind.)
30 Green Bay Packers
31 New York Giants

I'd be fine with moving down, but it just looks like we don't have any leverage for a trade... Buffalo isn't going to draft a RB or a QB should the top guy be there, and it would be cheaper to trade with them (out of the top 10). Denver could be in the market for a RB at 12, but that's unlikely... Now, if there were a big-time WR in this draft, we'd be in business because another team would want to move ahead of Buffalo possibly and snag him... but, there isn't.

I fully expect the Saints to be fluid during the draft. They will not hesitate to move up or down and/or deal picks for players using the last two drafts as a guide. I think if McFadden's still on the board and Jerrah comes calling....Loomis' will listen. But whatever happens this draft's going to fun to watch.

I totally agree. There are 8 highly rated players in this draft, then the next 35 or so players all grade out around the same. I feel that if you trade back for two firsts or a first and a second you may wind up with 3 quality starters. Players like Trevor Laws, Curtis Lofton, Dan Connor,
Keith Rivers, Mike Jenkins, Aqib Talib, Leodis McKelvin, Chris Williams, Kentwan Balmer, Justin King, Jerod Mayo, and mabye even DRC depending how far you trade down could be there. Imaging getting any three of the above players. They would greatly increase our depth and overall talent as starters if their play deemed so. With the way Loomis like to wheel and deal I look for him to get back a 4th rounder for the one we gave for Vilma. I look for Dallas, Philly(who may include Lito), Chicago (needs a WR bad), Houston,San Francisco, or the Giants (Shockey may be involved) to try and move up.

O.K. Dallas would move up for McFadden... I get that... but why would Philly, Chicago, Houston, S.F., or the Giants want to move up to 10? ...for who? Who would they want at 10?

There's is no WR in this draft worth a top 15 pick, let alone top 10. the top 3 or 4 CBs are all pretty darn close... Rivers?

100% disagree. Why be passive? Trade UP and get Ellis or Dorsey.

Agree, the talent at the positions we need are fairly equal from 10 to 25 or so. Not a huge separation between them and several to pick from. Why not get some additional picks.

Because trading UP costs you picks, trading BACK gains you picks, and there are several good players that we can still get by trading back. Why not gain instead of lose?

Still though... who's going to give us multiple picks to move into the 10th spot? For who?

Dallas for McFadden is the only one that makes any sense, and Dallas could talk to Buffalo if they want him, cause they've gotta pretty much know we're not taking him.

Youre right, its a very valid point. I dont have anyone in mind right now but once free agency is over and everyone goes through their pro days one of those teams may just fall in love with a guy that they would have to move up to get. Needs are still going to change and I guess its kinda early for this post, but my feeling is, for whatever reason, if the opportunity presents itself it seems to be the logical thing to do
