South Carolina maybe? Though they've had a pretty good baseball program the last few years. Maybe Kentucky this year with the decline of their basketball, though they picked up the slack in football. Bama didn't really have a strong year in any of the major sports.

Every team seems to have at least one sport that is their forte. This year there might be a couple down schools, but there is no real team year in and year out that sucks at everything.

They have strong baseball and men's tennis teams lately, but no national titles.

My guess would be Ole Miss too. They have a good squad but they underachieve a lot either because of Poor coaching, players making key mistakes, or just bad luck. Its funny too because Auburn gets beaten out all the time in recruiting but we always seem to get the wins year after year. I think no matter how much one rival fan can dislike Tubs, he is a damn good game day HC. Great X's and O's guy. If you give him enough time to study you, he will find a way to beat you with his players. Plus his coaching staff has been together for almost 14 years, thats a good bond to establish to get some cohesion going.

Tuberville may be a bit of a snake personally but he rarely gets outsmarted in any game.
thats why he wins.

I didn't put Ole Miss for the sole reason of baseball. They've done pretty well the last few years, although they've choked a few times in the Super regionals. Like I said earlier, there isn't really one school that massively underachieves.

They are still an SEC team... so it's not like they are going to be worthless 100% of the time in every single sport... But I would say they are definitely the runt of the SEC litter...

Top 25 rankings in all sports is common place for all SEC teams at some point in their history... that's not a good measuring stick.

This is a common misconception. Vanderbilt is usually weak in football but not usually the bottom of the barrel. In the last three years Vandy has averaged just under 5 wins per season, and been on the verge of a bowl berth twice.

But in all other sports, Vanderbilt is very competitive, and sometimes actually carries the SEC banner. Vanderbilt has gone to the Sweet 16 in 2 of the last 4 NCAA tournaments and is currently in the top 20 looking to repeat. Vandy goes to the NCAA tournament regularly and Memorial Gym is known as one of the toughest places to play in the NCAA. Vanderbilt women's hoops are blue chip- in the same breath with UT, Duke (this used to include La Tech but not so much anymore). The Vandy women's team is always top 10.

Vandy was #1 in baseball most of last year, and has been the top rated SEC baseball team for a while now. It has a reasonably solid history of baseball, especially in recent history. Currently #3 AP.

Vanderbilt golf teams are always strong and ranked, often in the top 5. Men and women golfers at Vandy go on to pro careers. The school also has a strong tennis program.


And the school is far and away the top rated academically - and it is after all a [i[college[/i] conference, not an athletic farm association.

For a school of 7,000, I think Vandy does quite well in the SEC.

Someone has to be bottom of the barrel of the best sports conference in America...

And according to secsports.com, Vandie doesn't have any national championships. Even Tulane had a national championship while in the SEC.

Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina all have won a national championship in something.

I believe MSU, Ole Piss and Vandie are the only teams without a national championship in the current SEC.

The NCAA does not recognize football national championships, so that gives LSU an extra three championships and thus making us #1 on the national championship list with 43 compared to Arkansas's 41. (Arkansas has zero football national championships, which we all know is the most important # anyways.)

However that's one more than both Mississippi State and Ole Piss have...

First of all, the original question said all sports apply, so you can't just pick and choose your sports that you want to include.

Secondly, you can't just select the timeframe you want either. Programs go up and down, so you have to look at it from a historical context.

Third, you can't go just based off of games won, when Vanderbuilt's best team is baseball which has a million more games played than football or basketball. Shoot, LSU played almost as many baseball games the first WEEK of the season as they did the entire regular season of football. Therefore naturally whichever baseball team that has the best seasons during that timeframe will automatically be considered among the best. For example, I don't see Florida's numbers listed, but during that timeframe they won two basketball national championships back-to-back and a football national championship, but if they had a terrible baseball team during those years, their standing would look terrible when compared next to Vandy. (When the truth is, Vandie could only DREAM of having that kind of success.

If anything, you have to take a weighted average of all sports, but even then that doesn't account for things like championships, etc. which should merit extra attention.

Fourth, this is the SEC. We have higher standards than any other conference. This isn't the WAC. Our #1 measure of success is national championships, and then secondly we might be able to toss in SEC championships, but that's more of an afterthought. What do you think, about 4 SEC championships are about equal to 1 national championship? Either way, the only thing that really counts are championships. An area which Vandie is severely lacking.

Top 25 rankings? *yawn* Lots of wins? *bigger yawn*

Face it, Vandie is duking it out with MSU and Ole Piss for towel boy status in the SEC. You got one women's bowling national championship to rub in the Mississippi double-mint disaster twin school's faces... *thumbs up*

But hey, chin-up! You are still in the SEC! It's not like you are in the ACC...
