Saints sign Dan Morgan... (1 Viewer)

When healthy, he is an absolute monster. I have rarely seen a linebacker shed blocks like Dan Morgan. Extremely aggressive. Plays like a wild man which explains the concussions. Dan could give a rats tail about his body, he sacrifices it for the game. Does anyone know if he has he ever played on the outside before?

I wish him well. If he makes the team, stays healthy, and plays up to his talent, his stay here will be long and he will be loved.

Otherwise....well.......

for this year's #2, it would be a disaster...
next year's #2, maybe ok...

Like I said, I love when Shockey has his fire--just don't see the upside for a high pick.

Not wanting to fight--just my opinion.

Maybe a draft day deal for a #1 next year. That wouldn't shock me. I see no way they'd give up the 10th overall pick this year.

I would feel more comfortable if we gave them a conditional 2nd. Like, if he makes the probowl or leads the NFC in yards for a TE or something like that. But I definitely wouldn't give up a 1st for him straight out.

Well, I disagree, and if you don't want to debate, that's fine. But when you make statements like "Shockey for this year's #2 would be a disaster" and when you insinuate that it would be the equivalent of "gutting the franchise" but giving up next year's #2 would be ok, it would be nice if you could give some clarification.

Could Morgan's signing mean we will be drafting a LB that we think will be better over the long term rather than one that could start now? I think moving him outside will help him stay healthy and benefit the team. I would rotate him with Shanle. Maybe if he is not counted on to play every down, it will prolong his career as well. I know they had to consult doctors and do a physical on him before they signed him to a contract. The front office knows what they are doing. Jeff Faine was injury prone and look how he turned things around. I feel that Shanle will be better with a true MLB playing along side him in Vilma if he has to play because of Morgan's injury. I think it was a good signing. This offseason is starting to shape up.

Whelp, you don't get on for 3 freaking hours and this is what you miss. From out of nowhere. I swear JJ Abrams is the Saints PR rep or something.

I've really been wanting us to get an LB before the draft. I was hoping for Johnson or Gold (I preferred Gold because of his blitz ability) but this blows me away. Morgan is awesome when healthy. I wonder how well he will do at the WLB spot (I would hate to see him ride pine while Sim started). If we don't get Dorsey or Ellis, we'll need a lot of blitzing coming from these three (Fuj, Vilma, Morg). I don't know how well they will do at blitzing but I bet the other two will do great covering for the blitzing man.

Wow, I mean, if he stays healthy and can adjust to WLB (assuming that's where he is going), this will be almost as good as getting Briggs with a fraction of the price.

Bring back Miller and EJ and we're ready for DT and CB in the draft. :9:

You know what? This front office is so pathetic that it's comical.

ANOTHER broken down defensive player who was either cut or in danger of losing his job because of health or age concerns. We sign them because the front office has an abysmal reputation amongst free agents and an abysmal track record when it comes to drafting defense. Why sign a healthy free agent whose abilities would improve this team when you can pick up tin cans to short term contracts to show the world that you're "trying?"

But hey, now when we draft offense in 3 out of 4 the first 4 rounds and load the back end of the draft with linebackers and defensive ends from St. Mary's College for the Undraftable, we can all sit and chuckle because we KNOW that the front office ALWAYS has a plan.

And then the regular season will come, and we'll notice just how much ground we've lost. Again.

And no, I really don't care if any of these guys end up doing well, because there's actual talent to be had in free agency that can be locked up to 4 year deals, and this team is not going after them.

this statement on his wikipedia troubles me though :

Dan "Glass Head" Morgan, who likes to stick butterfingers up his butt, was signed to a contract extension in August 2005 that would have kept him in a Panther uniform through 2010. < from wikipedia.rog

It's been changed a little, it now reads:

Dan "Glass Head" Morgan, who likes to take really, really, hot bubble baths while listening to soft Phil Collins music, was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the first round, with the 11th overall selection, in the 2001 NFL Draft

Ok Sammuels signed a deal argueably for more than he was worth, for a team he REALLY wanted to play for, NO ONE IN THE LEAGUE wanted Briggs at the price he thought he was gonna get... so he stays with the same team

What free agents should we have signed that we "let slip through our grips" or didn't even chase?

Oh wait you cant name any becauce you are just spouting off at the mouth and dont think before you click "submit reply"

So I will edit my usual chicken little phrase to:

Why haven'e we signed anyone {that Webmeistro approves of} yet?

um.. you all talking about having morgan backup because he's injury prone.. sorry you have it backwards. you want the great guy but injury prone starting and the reliable never injured as the backup.. cause if that reliable guy is hurt and injury guy comes in to backup.. well
anyway. morgan will start, i promise that if he's healthy.
used to be, if he was in the lineup, we would NOT beat the panthers.
used to be thankfull he was on the injury report, not that i wanted him hurt.. but we wouldnt' win if he was in.
i'd say morgan vilma fujita start, and one goes down, the one not injured becomes mlb, and simoneau comes in for the wlb, or simonea ends up being primary backup at both.
anyway, think morgans concussions have diminished with the new concussion helmet.
then he messed up the achilles.

He might not even make the team after preseason. Its a good pick up, but could end up like Michael Bennett or Dhani Jones.

Yeah, Saints should have made Faine the highest paid center and paid what the Raiders did for Walker.
