I'd love Haynesworth to be a target--he'd open up all kinds of possibilities in the draft.

DE
RB
CB
TRADES... hmmmmm......

1.5% chance he'll be a Saint because of 2 reasons.

His character and price tag.

Sucks because he is a monster.

I have reservations considering what happened two years ago and exactly how low Tennesee would go in terms of compensation. Anything besides 1 first round pick is too much considering his age, our future, and the fact we can grab someone 4-5 years younger for probably a first and third.

He is better than anyone else that will be available at 10. Give them our 1st, they give us their 2nd or 3rd. i wouldnt mind giving them devery and our 2nd or 3rd and calling it even. He is worth the cash and picks, and payton can keep him in line. do what it takes and the card will fall.
Vilma, Morgan, Fujita, Shanle, Rookie at LB rotation
Haynesworth, Thomas, Grant, Smith, Young, McCrey at DL rotation
Not a bad 11 potential in the box at all times IMHO.
Most other teams starting 11 on D is not that talanted, not to mention just the front 7.

Haynesworth is only 26.

The problem is not the compensation as far as draft picks go... Haynesworth is a bonified stud DT that performs every down, unlike some of the recently traded DT's that got big contracts like Shaun Rogers. He is worth a high pick. The only reason Tennessee would consider trading Haynesworth is due to what has happened in FA with the crazy money being thrown at DT's.

If Shaun Rogers gets a $42 million dollar contract with $20 million guaranteed what is Haynesworth going to command next year? Certainly he will want more than Rogers and Williams received as he is definitely a better player. If Tennessee is not going to put up those big $$$ then they need to trade him while they can. But it is going to take a huge chunk to sign him, and if you trade for him you will want to make sure you can sign him to a long term deal first.

And that's why I doubt we'll see him in black and gold... would be nice if we had him, but with all of the guys whose contracts need to be re-up'd... no Albert for us.

I think we have a better shot at Dorsey or Ellis than we do of trading for AH.

If we trade for Haynesworth, we might as well trade Will Smith in the deal because signing Haynesworth would prohibit the Saints from signing Will Smith as well. That is way too much money for the D Line. However, Haynesworth is the top at his position.

I have to admit, I would literally cut a backflip if the Saints were to land Haynesworth. He's as good as it gets in this league at the DT position. It would certainly conjure up dreams of a superbowl in my mind, even if we don't have a great secondary.

But it is likely going to take a 1st rounder, or a 2nd this year and next, plus what one would think would be a deal with at least $22 million in guaranteed money to get it done.

I would consider it. Maybe take the brunt of the cap hit this season while there is a lot of room.

As for the helmet incident. I like 'em a little mean, myself. :hihi: Reports are that AH has been very remorseful over the incident and has done a lot of good things to improve his image since.

I see your point. He is only 26, and he is a known commodity. Drafting either Ellis or Dorsey may very well cost us the same draft picks, but would probably save us more money cosidering it would probably be around the 6/7 spot in the draft. Someone speared me in the kidney once, and if I had a chance to kick him in the face, I would have, but I couldn't move at the time. I wouldn't lose any sleep whatsoever if we got Haynesworth, I would only hope it wouldn't cost us more than 1 day one draft pick. I have no reservations about throwing in extra day two picks for a player of that calibur when for all the almost sure thing status Dorsey and Ellis have, we know what we would be getting with Albert. Forget the contracts Rodgers and Co. got. What really opened up this can of worms was Oakland giving Tommy Kelly 50 million.

One thing is if you pay the man, you now have to pay next year, Will Smith, Colston, Evans, and Vilma. Part of me thinks we trade Grant if we get Haynesworth simply becuase i think smith is better. It will put us in the titans boat. this scenero could cost us only this years 1st but losing this years 2nd and next years and possible a player for our roster is suicide.

I am no capologist, but I do not think it would be possible to trade Grant anytime soon with all the guaranteed money we gave him. I do believe Grant is underrated. Worth 63 mil, no, but at that positon and at that time, what choices did we have? Grant is good at containment, and as big as he is I have seen him chase down a QB to the sideline for a loss many times. He may not get sacks, but he gets pressure and keeps doubleteams from advancing to the next level, something our DT's should be doing. Also, with a DT like Haynesworth, Grant and Smith would be putting up the kind of numbers we ache for. On third and long, move Grant inside along with stud DT and rush McCray, and we will be top five in sacks. There is no upside to trading Grant anytime soon. Departing with either Grant or Smith, this year or next, is a step backwards. We need 3 to 4 quality DE's with complementing skills, and we have that now.

Not a bad idea, pick up Haynesworth, trade Grant. Grant has always been an underachiever, but the Saints could probably get good value for him. DEs are more prized around the league than DTs. And the Saints could pick up a DE in the draft somewhere.

Man, if we could trade will smith for albert haynesworth and draft Glen Dorsey, put mccray in smiths spot. draft a CB, DE FS TE

wow dorsey and Haynesworth pressure the middle with GRant and Mccray on the outside, wow now we have front 4 pressure. lake draft pick etc. for backups.

Too costly to improve via blockbuster trades if you ask me.. There are some good DT's in the draft, I say take one of them. Go CB/LB in RD 2 and use those draft picks to improve on the cheap. Then we might actually be able to afford to keep smith/colston/vilma et al.
