Every year, there are a ton of free agents we all desperately want, wether or not they will fit our scheme and budget. This thread is not about those kind of wishes. Every year, there are players in the draft we have no chance of drafting, and at times no need of drafting, but you can tell they are probably going to be very good anyways. This is the kind of wish I would like to discuss.
I know the draft has become very commercialized, and that every year we have our list; most are players we liked in college or players being hyped before the draft, or even guys we feel are sleepers based on regurgitated information we have gotten from anaylists and such. Never mind the majority of us know very little about watching film or understanding how a player will translate to the NFL and our team in particular. Never mind that even the anaylists we depend on in turn to evaluate these players seldomly get it right on a consistant basis. All these things make draft time fun, especially for the armchair QB.
Each year there are players we just wish we had 4 first round picks so we could grab each one we like. Take Oklahoma's WR, Malcolm Kelly, for example. Listening to the interviews with this guy, man I wish we could get him somehow. like with a magic extra 1st round pick that cost us nothing, and without losing out on the top DT and CB. Or last year, I desperately wanted the TE Micheal Allen as our Colston like steal later in the draft. Or even wanting Vernon Davis or Sean Taylor when we picked no where near the top of the draft. This is the kind of fantasy I am talking about.
If all our needs were filled, and our team was stacked with potential probowlers at every position, like Dallas, New England, or San Diego, and we were want for nothing and could have any pick in the first round, Who would you want? Don't focus on needs of the Saints, just tell me who you see not playing CB or DT that you would like to have magically on our team, just becuase you drank his koolaid and think the world of him. Tell me what sleeper or bargain pick at a position we don't need you would want on this team.
These musings should not reflect our needs, but rather that guy you always liked, or that guy who through the combine or interviews on the radio or TV made an impression on you. Which guy is your guy?
