im glad this happened. i really didnt want to see a revival of mcNabbs career with fitz.
 
Lito's very disgruntled in Philly, I've heard some things locally come out of Eagles' management as well as Lito's mouth that seem to make Lito's departure inevitable.
 
The question this brings up is... where does this set Colston's value? I wouldn't put Colston in the same salary grade as Fitz... but something close to it. Maybe 5 years 38 million?
 
Keep in mind that the cap is going up, so these deals, while bigger, aren't necessarily less affordable for the team.

Exactly - next year whoever the top receiver to be in FA or get a deal reworked will get the tag of "highest paid receiver" but that will only last a year as the following off-season some new schmo will get an even bigger contract. The whole concept of "highest paid xxx" doesn't make sense overall - it's only relevant for people who get new deals in the same year.
 
Wow...this is one reason why the NFL should guarantee their contracts. It's hard to feel bad about someone who makes so much money, but the Cardinals placed those incentives in Fitzgerald's contract and he performed well enough to hit them. Then when they see how bad they messed up, they make Fitz re-do his deal and the media gets on his back for not re-negotiating for the good of the team. He was due to make well over 30 million in the next two seasons, so essentially he is playing his final 2 years for peanuts and he won't be able to get to free agency as soon. Hopefully he has an opt out clause that will allow him to get to free agency sooner or maybe they guaranteed the whole deal??? Again, it's tough to feel bad about someone making that much money, but this really isn't fair.

Fair market value for Colston should be 6 years 45 million give or take a couple.

I know they said 17 Million in salary and bonuses this year and there was also a no trade clause tossed in.
 
I think Fitz was slated to earn more per catch than Colston will make all year under his current contract.

Fitz never would have seen that ~30million - everyone knew that when he signed the original deal. The purpose of the incentives was not to pay him more based on the original contract, but to get him a new deal, and new guaranteed money sooner by putting the Cardinals in a tough position where they had to negotiate a new contract years earlier than they otherwise would have.

I guess maybe not from a yards per catch aspect (I'm too lazy to look up Fitz's stats) but Colston broke Fitzgerald's record for most receptions in first two years. If anything, Colston is playing his way past Fitzgerald's salary grade.
 
They didn't really reduce his pay all that much. He's still going to get 32+ million in 3 years. He was slated to make 27 million in 2 years under his rookie contract. All they did was push a little bit of cap hit into the 3rd and 4th year to make space for this year. I laughed when I saw that they only had 16 defensive players signed.

Um, maybe I am dumb here, but how could they force Fitz to renegotiate his contract? All he has to do is play and say no or they have the right to cut him. He must have wanted to redo his contract as far as I know. Again the only power they have is to cut him, and he would have made bank if they cut him. He must want to stay in Ariz and renegotiated his contract out of sheer kindness.

EDIT: OK, just read the details and how can anyone feel bad for Fitz? He makes 17 mil guaranteed this year? What am I missing. Of course he renegotiated his contract.
