Do we get any compensation for Jeff Faine since he is the second Center in the past 3 years to leave the team to become the highest paid center in league at the time.

We won't get anything this year for him. I am not sure how it works, but I think dollars and playing time affect any compensation we might would get next year.

i dont see why we would.

my understanding of compensatory picks is that you are compensated if you lose players in free agency and are unable to replace them. But since we signed 3 free agents from other teams would that cancel out us losing our starting center. Who else have we lost to other teams as well as who else is an unsigned free agent from the saints.

QUE LSSPAM~!

I think you will see it next season but then again if we get big production out of one of our other FAs we will more then likely not get a thing.

Compensatory Picks
In addition to the 32 picks in each round, there are a total of up to 32 picks dispersed at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7. These picks, known as "compensatory picks," are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency. Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick.

If fewer than 32 such picks are awarded, the remaining picks are awarded in the order in which teams would pick in a hypothetical eighth round of the draft.

Compensatory picks are awarded each year at the NFL annual meeting which is held at the end of March; typically, about three or four weeks before the draft.

I don't understand the formula exactly but yes, I think it's unlikely we'll get any compensation in the end for Faine. We retained most of our free agents (Miller, Johnson, Patten, Stecker, Henderson, Simoneau, Nesbit, etc), pretty much only lost Faine, and then added Morgan, McCray, and Gay among others. Meaning our new signees will likely outweigh our lost signees both in number and "quality" (i.e. size of contract).

thx dude, I knew you'd have the answer.

Other than Faine, who did we lose?

Also Vilma was a trade so that shouldn't count. Gay, Morgan, and McCrary will count.

So basically we lost Faine and gained Gay, Morgan, and McCrary, all three of which will be playing alot of snaps, Gay could end up starting, possibly Morgan. I'll guess either a 7th round compensatory pick next year or maybe nothing.

As many have said, I don't know the formula. But it has something to do with losing a free agent at a position and whether or not you fill that position with a free agent from another team. It also has to do with how much the free agent you lost plays for his new team.

Example - LeCharles Bentley signed a huge deal with the Browns. We did not receive any compensation even though he was a pro bowler and he became the highest paid center. Why? Because he never played a down for the Browns. Had he played the whole season, we may have received compensation because he was not replaced with a free agent signing.

That is the way I understand it.

I don't know if we will get any then, Brian Simmons contract and Jason David's + whoever else we signed's contracts may add up to more than Faine's contract with the Bucs.
