I am sorry to say but 168-116 is one hell of a game. the Denver Nuggets and the Seattle Sonics scored 284 points between them, with Denver scoring 168 of them.
God that was one hell of a game.

I think it broke an all time NBA scoring record too.

I apologize to the mods if I put this is the wrong place. but this story was too much to pass up.

Why did Denver run up the score? Is Bellicheat coaching them?

City, ask them. My God this is a record guys. When was the last time an NBA team got even to 140 points much less close to 170 points. Thats incredible.

Wilt scored 100 in a game. I think the final score was in the 160's though. It may have broken that if that was the record. It is an amazing feat to accomplish like you said. I wish I could have seen the game. The teams probably had a nice high shooting percentage not seen to often, if ever.

Actually, it's not even the Nuggets team record. Back in the early 80's they played a game against the Pistons that ended 186-184, which is the highest scoring game in NBA history.

As for recent high scoring games, the Suns and Nets played a double overtime game last year that ended with a score of 161-157 (Phoenix).

Also, I was just perusing the Nuggets-Sonics box score and the thing that stood out to me was the fact that no one on the Nuggets really had that unusual of a stat line. I pulled up the box score thinking I’d see something like Iverson getting 50 and Carmelo getting 40, but they only combined for 50 points, which is a little below their average. The only statistic that really stood out to me was the fact that Marcus Camby had 10 assists (unusual for him). Apart from that no one really had a break out game, they just combined as a team to put up a huge score.

My goodness. The Sonics are awful...

The thing that stands out the most is how well they shot. Taking a bunch of shots isn't *that* big of a deal, but making that many is how they put up so many points. They shot over 60% from the field (typical is just under 50%), and they shot over 51% from 3-point range (typical is close to 40%-42%). They also made 85% of their free throws.

They did shoot many more 3's than the Sonics, but they had about the same total shots and about the same free throws. They just made so many more shots.

49 fast break points leads you to believe that the Sonics transition defense stinks, and that explains why they had so many made shots and so fast.
