This will be the 12th site that New Orleans has utilized for Training Camp, including the Ochsner Sports Performance Center

By - New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints announced today that the team's 2024 Training Camp will be conducted at the University of California, Irvine.

In December, ground broke on a comprehensive one-year construction project to build a brand-new team cafeteria at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center. The footprint required for the construction zone has temporarily reduced the space available for approximately 150 Saints coaches, players and staff.

"Currently, Mrs. Benson and our organization have invested in the construction of a new cafeteria, that when completed, will be among the finest in the National Football League," said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. "The scope of this project makes it difficult to host training camp on-site in 2024, given the extensive needs for our team to prepare for the regular season. We appreciate the outstanding support we have received from our great fans at training camp. We are thankful to be able to come to an agreement with the University of California, Irvine to host training camp, providing us with exceptional fields and facilities that are critical to our football team receiving the necessary work in preparation for the 2024 season." ...

NEW ORLEANS — Saints tight end, Jimmy Graham shares thank you to New Orleans again. This comes after his ambiguous series of stories posted on his Instagram in January hinting that he could soon be leaving the NFL.

On Friday, Graham posted on Instagram thanking the city of New Orleans and the Saints organization. Towards the end of the post, he said he was "unsure of what the future holds."

The 13-year NFL veteran, who played his first five seasons in New Orleans, returned to the Saints in 2023 after taking the previous year off from playing pro football.

The 37-year-old joined the...

In an attempt to improve the quality of the game, the NFL annually votes on new rules at the league meetings in the spring. Owners gather to decide on a list of proposals from teams and the competition committee. Each proposal has to be approved by two-thirds of owners (24 of 32, or 75%) in order to go into effect. Rule changes don’t make headlines every year, but the 2024 owner’s meeting featured several widely-anticipated proposals.

There were 12 approvals separated into three sections: playing rules, bylaws and resolutions. The owners voting to ban the “hip drop” tackles was the most notable change of the meeting. There were also other big changes such as pushing the trade deadline back a week. The NFL has also changed the kickoff rules again and the requirements to receive a third challenge.

Let’s take a look at the 12 approved changes:

Dean Kleischmidt, former New Orleans Saints head athletic trainer, was one of the recipients for this year’s Awards of Excellence by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Kleinschmidt spent 31 years workings with the Saints, starting in 1969 as an assistant athletic trainer. He was promoted to head athletic trainer in 1971 at age 23 and was the youngest person to hold that position in the NFL.

“He’s been my mentor when I was doing athletic training, he’s been a fiend, a close friend, for now 50 years,” said Saints executive director of administration Jay Romig. “He’s a tremendous person and is...

Saints Reacts Results: What grade would you give the Saints in free agency so far?

Earlier this week, we asked our readers what grade they would give the New Orleans Saints in free agency so far? With 40% of the vote, fans said a “C”, followed by a “B” with 31% of the vote. Fans have been pretty satisfied about the moves the Saints have made so far and because it is still early on, one can assume that they are not done in free agency yet.

Over the Cap has the Saints with about $8.3M available and with some contract restructures that could still take place, that will leave plenty of money for New Orleans to add a few more free agents to their roster.

Who would you like...

On Friday, March 29 the New Orleans Saints signed Charlie Smyth, a former goalkeeper for the Gailec football club Down in Ireland to a three-year deal. The kicker position is officially a battle.

This signing comes after he had a workout with the team earlier this week. Smyth’s signing is making the seat of last year’s kicker Blake Grupe very warm. It will be interesting to see if he can transfer over what he learned in the Gaelic Athletic Association.

Gaelic football is different than its European counterpart. It’s played with a slightly smaller and heavier round ball, and both hands...

Here’s some competition for Blake Grupe. The Athletic’s Kalyn Kahler reports that the New Orleans Saints are signing rookie kicker Charlie Smyth as part of the NFL’s International Pathway Program. Smyth hails from Northern Ireland and previously worked as a goalkeeper for County Down’s Gaelic football team.

He’s only been kicking an NFL football since August, but the 22-year-old is already good from distances of 60 yards in practice. He’ll have a chance to develop with a respected special teams coaching staff and possibly push Grupe. We’ll see if he can perform in a new environment over...

As had been previously reported, the New Orleans Saints will take their 2024 training camp on the road this summer. Construction on a new team cafeteria at their headquarters in Metairie will make it difficult for 90 players and a full coaching staff to work at the facility — not to mention all of the athletic trainers and support staff.

So, the Saints announced Friday, they’ll be holding training camp at UC-Irvine in Southern California through July and August. Here’s what general manager Mickey Loomis shared in a team statement:

UC-Irvine has hosted the Los Angeles Rams for their...
