The New Orleans Saints have a new face in the quarterback room in the form of Kellen Mond, who has a pretty clear selling point as he competes for a job.

Mond, signed on Friday, was a third-round pick of the Vikings in 2021 when new Saints OC Klint Kubiak was with Minnesota. As the Saints look to install a new offense, Mond will have a bit of a headstart to not only help his teammates, but also to show he's capable. Mond joined WWL Radio recently to break down that subject and more.

“Obviously nothing is ever promised, especially in this league," Mond said. "I’m just thankful to get an opportunity to be able to compete for a backup job and, you know, that’s something that’s really all you want to be able to put yourself in to a position to play and be ready to play."

The addition makes for an intriguing question at the backup QB spot behind starter Derek Carr. Could Mond use his familiarity in the scheme to beat out Jake Haener? The QB selected by the Saints in the 4th round of 2023 finds himself in a similar situation as Mond heading into 2022. Despite his draft stock, the Vikings moved on from head coach Mike Zimmer and Kubiak was let go. The new staff, led by Kevin O'Connell, joined the Browns in 2022, then the Colts in 2023 before landing in New Orleans. ///

The New Orleans Saints have been quiet in the weeks leading up to the 2024 NFL draft. Too quiet. Always-aggressive general manager Mickey Loomis is known for trading up in the draft and that’s a strategy we could see again in just a week. But who would they trade up for, and which teams could look to move back?

This exact scenario was explored in a collaborative mock draft between ESPN’s Field Yates and NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, who had the Saints trading up to pick Malik Nabers out of LSU. The playmaking wide receiver is a rare talent, and Yates sees him being a big-time Michael...

New Orleans Saints fans are going to like this one…

USA Today’s Nate Davis shared one of the most exciting mock drafts that we’ve seen to date. Davis has a multitude of trades going down in within top-10 including the Las Vegas Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings and the Washington Commanders all making moves to secure their quarterback of the future.

Unfortunately for Saints fans, Davis didn’t project the big trade-up that you all wanted to see. However, he did give the Saints one player that could be monumental in the team’s success going forward.

At pick No. 14, Davis has the Saints...

The New Orleans Saints may still be looking for a boost to the defensive line via the 2024 NFL Draft.

According to a report from Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, at least eight teams were in attendance at the Illinois Pro Day. Defensive Tackle Jer’Zhan (Johnny) Newton headlined the event as the only first-round projected prospect for Illinois.

Last season, the 6’2, 304-pound Newton recorded 26 solo tackles and eight sacks. He had the fourth-most sacks in the Big 10 last year in his twelve starts. He was named the 2023 Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season, New Orleans...

Staff Picks: Which uniforms should the Saints use more often?

The NFL will allow teams to use three different helmet designs starting next year, making for a great opportunity for the New Orleans Saints to change their look. A full redesign isn’t necessary — their black and gold uniforms are classic, unique around the league, and popular among fans — but they could stand to mix it up a bit more by getting more use out of the uniforms they already have.

Having the opportunity to design a new helmet and tweak the unpopular black lids introduced in 2022 is big. So our staff writers picked which uniforms we’d like to see the Saints wear more often, and whether a new helmet design or two could factor into those plans:

The New Orleans Saints continue to do their homework in the trenches prior to draft day. Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report reported that the Saints were one of many teams in attendance for Illinois defensive tackle Johnny Newton’s pro day.

Newton would have been worked out last month with the rest of his Illinois teammates at the school’s pro day, but opted to have foot surgery to repair a partial Jones fracture, pushing his pro day to Tuesday, April 16.

Newton, at 6-foot-2, 304 pounds is an athletic specimen along the defensive line. His hand usage at the point of attack to go along...

Which NFC South QB has been most successful against their rivals?

The state of the NFC South looks drastically at the quarterback than it did just two years ago. Kirk Cousins is the newest signal caller in the division, but Baker Mayfield, Bryce Young and Derek Carr aren’t much more experienced than him. All three of those players are entering the second year with their teams. The division has fell a long way from the days of Cam Newton, Drew Brees and Matt Ryan.

Three of four quarterbacks in the division started their careers elsewhere, so everyone other than Bryce Young has played all four NFC South teams before. Excluding the team they currently play for, how has each quarterback fared against the rest of the division? Mayfield and Carr step into this season with a winning records, but it’s Baker Mayfield who has the best winning percentage against his divisional rivals.

Saints free agent profile: How Willie Gay Jr. impacts 2024 draft strategy

Willie Gay Jr. is another young free agent who comes over to the New Orleans Saints. When the Kansas City Chiefs drafted him out of Mississippi State, Gay’s athleticism was one of his biggest strengths. That aspect of the linebacker’s game carried over to the pros. His time with the Chiefs, however, ended with changes in position and snap count.

Gay brings athleticism to a defense that severely lacked it a year ago, specifically in the front seven. Dennis Allen has made it clear Gay is here to compete with Pete Werner for the starting weak side linebacker spot. Gay’s experience in both...

The New Orleans Saints clearly need to better the offensive line in 2024.

With expert mock drafts pouring in as the NFL Draft looms near, many analysts have the Saints taking an offensive lineman. Let’s review how former first-round offensive linemen have fared in New Orleans.

Trevor Penning (2022)

Pick: 19

College: Northern Iowa

Carson’s Grade: D

Penning has struggled to find his path since arriving in New Orleans in 2022, which is partially due to injuries. He played in all 17 games last season but only started in five of them. The Saints took a gamble with Penning, and currently...

Running back Kendre Miller was drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He was expected to make an immediate impact, but unfortunately, the injury bug was hungry for fresh blood.

Miller missed nine games due to injury in 2023. He entered the season rehabbing a right knee injury. After playing his first career game on Sept. 24 against the Green Bay Packers, he played the next six weeks before sustaining another injury - this time to his ankle.

He returned for the final game of the 2023 season against the Atlanta Falcons. This game, though seventeen weeks...

We’re about a week away from the 2024 NFL draft, which means some of the draft’s most accurate forecasters are finally comfortable sharing what they’ve heard. One analyst to watch closely is NFL.com’s Peter Schrager, who has a lot of sources around the league and generally has a strong pulse for how teams are wanting to move in the draft.

But Schrager’s pick for the New Orleans Saints in his first mock draft is hardly unique. He went with Oregon State right tackle Taliese Fuaga as an ideal replacement for Ryan Ramczyk. We’ll let him explain:

Fuaga has drawn comparisons to Ramczyk...
