N/S - What Does a Stadium Cost These Days?

I don't think that's the majority sentiment of people on this board. I think that most of us would, all things considered, prefer to see the Superdome upgraded to better compete financially with the other stadiums in the NFL. However, the stadium issue is a real one in that the NFL and team ownership want a new stadium at some point in the near-ish future. Seeing as how 2/3 of the league either has had or is building a new staduim within the past 20 years, the Superdome is considered ancient by those standards. And with the advent of PSLs, more luxury boxes, etc. giving the league and owners more money they will use any excuse necessary to call for a new stadium.....and if a certain area/region patently refuses to build a newer stadium, well let's say that NFL teams (and this one in particular) aren't afraid to pull the "relocation" card to basically hold cities and their fans/taxbases hostage to get what they want.

All told, I believe all of us Saints fans want to see the Saints remain in New Orleans, and for that to be possible for the next 20 to 30 years a new stadium will have to be built to sate the NFL and Benson.

Oh no not this if you don't build a staduim or else argument again. Where has the NFL or Saints have publicly stated that a new staduim MUST be built in order for the Saints to stay in New Orleans?

However, Benson as well as the NFL did came out publicly and stated more support is needed from the gulf south region to help the Saints stay economically viable in this market. This was back in 2001...I believe, which is why the state and saints have this current payment incentive contract in place to keep the Saints here, which was created under Gov. Mike Foster at the time.

However, a major part of the problem with the Saints was that they had a bad team on the field most of the time. After, constant losing and going thru so many bad head coaches, QBs, and bad players in general many of the fans got fed up and stopped going to the games. Until 2006, for the most part the Saints have been consistently medicore at best.

You can only shovel bad to medicore down people's throats for so long.

That's how you can attract people to the games by fielding good teams that are capable of becoming a contender and to be consistent at winning. That's how the Saints can stay viable.

I support a complete re-engineer or renovation of the super dome. Besides the dome with its size is capable of an having upgrade unlike some of the older facilities in the NFL where there's no other option but to build a new staduim.
