Actually, there is some legitimacy in the comment about "negotiating" on the draft chart.

In years past, many teams "demanded" they get a little extra chart value to sweeten the deal when trading a higher pick. It was a way to ensure they didn't come out looking bad to their peers or their fans.

But now, with the huge contracts the top guys are getting it may very well be possible to trade into the top of the round and give up less than chart value. The money is definitely becoming a factor.

They need to do something about this. It's becoming a real burden to the teams with early picks. Bust a pick or two and you kill your cap for years.
