Saints looking to trade up?!!!..... [MERGED]

Yes, I'd love to get Dorsey. He is absolutely a beast. However, Sedrick Ellis is not far behind him, and we could get him at #7 or #8 and it wouldn't cost as much to move up to those 2 spots.

..............

I just believe trading up to #2 for Dorsey is a mistake. Not because of the player as he is a stud. If DT was the only position we needed to fill, then ok. However, this team has more needs than that.

:plus-un2:

Glenn Dorsey is significantly ahead of Sedrick Ellis.

Ellis is a rare commodity in his own right, a try-hard guy with great work ethic . . . at 300lbs. He's a very safe bet at DT, and that's unusual. 300lbs aren't usually known for their effort and work ethic.

But in terms of flat-out physical talent Ellis isn't in the same hemisphere as Dorsey. In fact, I imagine Ellis will end up being a 2-gap NT type before it's all said and done, because he just doesn't strike me as a potentially dominate pass rusher at the NFL level. Dorsey is.

Dorsey isn't Warren Sapp. Who is? But Dorsey is as close as we've gotten since Warren Sapp himself. There's a clear gap between Dorsey and Ellis

I think Dorsey is probably better than Ellis physically, but I think Ellis is going to last longer in the league and play harder. Those two alone bring them closer. I have a REALLY bad feeling about Dorsey getting injured early in his career and never becoming the player that he could be. Dorsey has shown some serious heart by playing hurt in 2007 and he will probably be paid well for that in this draft, but I think everyone should be worried about injury prone-ness with Dorsey.

While I agree Dorsey is clearly ahead of Ellis, I would not say he is not in the same hemisphere. I would take Dorsey over Ellis any day. However, I would not mortgage the farm for him if we could get Ellis for significantly less (and none of us know the asking price for either).

Agreed
