ESPN: SEC > All (BCS)
Good article MLU... Thanks!
Couple thoughts...
1. I'll be extremely glad when we are past the days when blacks receiving a job qualifies as a significant achievement. I'm sick of hearing about the first black to win a super bowl, or first black this, or first that. I feel like every time that we differentiate them, we just delay the day that we see them as individuals, and not by the color of their skin.
2. Isn't it weird that he feels that out of alllllll of our most memorable moments, any of our four national championships in that era doesn't even crack the top ten? We're past the point where winning a national championship qualifies as news. In fact, it's more of a shock when we don't win it as designated by auburn's 2004 season ranking as #3 behind only Croom and the creation of the BCS. That's pretty impressive!
3. In the SEC's top 10 players of the BCS era section, how in the world is our only heisman winner not higher up on that list? Tebow was the only sophomore out of the ENTIRE history of college football nationwide to ever have won a heisman! He also beat out LSU's Glen Dorsey and Arkansas's McFadden to win the Heisman. True they have both had much longer careers, but still... I'd have to go with Tebow on this one. Perhaps if it wasn't a big deal for a Sophomore to win it, I'd wouldn't feel this way though? I dunno...
4. I know we have won a lot of BCS titles, but I feel like we would have won more if we had had a playoff. Anyone else think the 2006 LSU Tigers were probably the most dangerous team by the end of that year? I know Florida won it that year, but still... Also Awbarn would have had a great chance in 04. Georgia might have earned a championship that year they blew LSU out of the SECCG, but I don't remember much about their season. I just remember how dominate they were at the end of the year. And back when Spurrier was leading the charge at Florida, he'd probably have had several national championships by now. He had some AMAZING teams.
5, How in the world does a 2004 awbarn team rank as the #1 team for the SEC, when we have FOUR national championship teams to consider? I don't believe they were all that great in terms of SEC history. I honestly felt like they should have lost to LSU that year, if not for some questionable calls. And I was not impressed with their bowl victory that year, and felt they probably would have lost to USC that year. However I definitely felt they deserved to find out what if... Tubbie might have called a great gameplan or they might have played better in a championship? But still! No way they were the best team.
6. Is the only reason the 2003 LSU Ole Piss game even mentioned is because of Eli Manning? Ok yea, it was a pretty good game to watch and all... But they're still Ole Piss! There are at least 5 LSU Awbarn games that were more meaningful and better games that didn't make the list. Or what about LSU Florida games? Or Florida Awbarn games? Or LSU Georgia? Or Georgia Florida? etc...
7. Again notice how there's not a single national championship game listed in the top 10 of our best games? Like if Hawaii had won the NC last year by 20 points or something in the worst game ever to watch, that would easily be number 1 for their conference.
8. The bluegrass miracle was the only great think about the UK game. The rest of the game was pretty much a comedy of errors. I guess a great finish is all you really need to be classified as a great game.
