Well, actually, the United States are IN America, America being the name of the continent, and given that we have/had issues with - off the top of my head - Mexico, Panama, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Honduras, Nicaragua, etc.. all which are IN America, and given that people living in other American countries call U.S. people "Americanos", he's right.
